+294 It can be awkward when the girl you're dating has the same first name as your mom. Just ask Jesus, amirite?

Has no one ever heard of Mary Magdelane?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think he ever actually dated Mary Magdelane, that's sort of a myth...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nah, it's pretty clear from manuscripts and such that he did. I'm not gonna go all DaVinci code on you and say that they had kids or anything, but it's pretty certain that they were romantically involved for awhile.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, guess we'll never really know for sure... the whole Davinci code thing ticks me off though. blech

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I've never actually read/seen it, only spoofs of it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not that they made it up in the Da Vinci code. If you read the Apocrypha it actually has everything they mentioned in the Da Vinci Code (Jesus kissed Mary, loved her more than His apostles, etc)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What? Jesus never dated anyone.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah he did. Mary Magdelane. You really think that a young, respected, powerful man like Jesus never once dated any one of his followers?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe, but I don't think the Son of God would've.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm going out with a girl named Niki. That's also my sister's name, but that's kinda the same thing

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uhm, yes. I really believe that Jesus never dated anyone. He doesn't pick favorites. No where in the Bible does it say that Jesus had a "significant other".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Very early in Christianity's history, there were dozens of influential books written by Christians that worshippers read, but there was no official list. The Vatican decided to select which of these books would go into the official Bible, and they ommitted books and passages that referenced Jesus' relationships and other parts of his personal life. However, archeological evidence shows us that Jesus was very very close to Mary Magdelane.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Vatican wasn't invented yet. It was King Constatine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh. You learn something new everyday.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you're interested in this kind of stuff the Nicene Creed and King Constantine is pretty intense. He wanted to appease every religion in the Byzantine Empire so he mashed them all together by changing books in the Bible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

he actually did pick favorites. it says quite a few times in the bible that john was his most beloved disciple. my theology teacher said that it demonstrated his human nature because, as humans, we are naturally more attracted to certain people over others and will form closer relationships with them...i didn't really like her answer though, how can jesus preach that we are all equal and then pick favorites?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll believe it when I see it. But until then, I only believe that which is in the Bible. It got picked for a reason.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

2 seconds of Google searching. This is only a partial list so idk if the Jesus-Mary Magdelane relationship is in any one of these, but it shows that the early church leaders just cherry picked whichever books they felt like for the purposes of manipulating the core message of Christianity http://www.thelostbooks.com/descrip.htm

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, it you picked to get more followers and secure more power.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

my boyfriends middle name is my dads name, and his dad has the same name as my dad..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it says in the bible that you should get married so he was just trying to fulfill i guess.. its not like he was a player he was just looking for a wife

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the REASON is that Jesus having a girlfriend doesnt affect our faith, and its not a big deal. i bet they omitted books about him getting a new pair of sandals too, just because its not important for us to know

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hahaha that was awesome ^^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

really? How did the stuff in the current books help it gain more followers and more secure power? What secure power did they have in the early 200's when they used that cannon, the power to be persecuted by the Roman empire?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because the original Bible was promoted by the Roman empire (King Constatine anyone?). By selecting certain books the leaders were able to apply certain theologies that applied to the most faiths like Christians, stoics and polytheists.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its "Constantine" dude

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It also took some power from women. Notice how the church is run by men? It's part of the reason women were kept down for so many years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yay! An argument about religion! How fun! >.<

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and original! twofer!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's simple: They didn't include the book about Mary Magdelane because it made Jesus look less All-Powerful and mighty.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

LISTEN UP! Around the time the books in the bible were chosen, there were many gnostic religions which hoarded sacred books. For this reason, books chosen to go into the canon had to meet three criteria. First, they had to be written in Palestine. Second, they had to be written by or under the supervision of an apostle. Lastly, to counter Gnosticism, the books had to be available to a mass audience. Dan Brown did no research, merely assumed that these books were true when in fact they WEREN'T WRITTEN BY APOSTLES. And in Jesus' time, people didn't "date". Are you guys that dense?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It also says in the Bible that you shouldn't get married. It all depends on your calling. I believe it was St. Peter who said that everybody should stay unmarried and devote their lives to serving God, but he knew that just wouldn't happen. If you are called to serve God, as Jesus was, you might be better off not to get married. If you aren't called for a place in the church then maybe it is your calling to get married... or maybe not

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, no, no. Paul (or Peter, can't remember) said repeatedly that this was NOT a law from God, just his advice to the people, from his personal experience. He said it wasn't good or bad to get married, but that staying single would make your life more simple, make adultery impossible, and give you more time to devote yourself to God. It's not that you shouldn't get married, it's just that he personally believed it wasn't for some people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Jesus didn't date Mary Magdelen! Get your facts straight! Da Vinci's picture doesn't dipict a women standing next to Jesus at the last supper its actually one of his diciples...back in that time period, young men were often feminine like it pictures.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@894571 (enchanting7): Exactly and how would Leonardo Davinci know what the last supper looked like anyways, after all it was centuries before his time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not talking about that BS DaVinci Code theory; there's tons of real evidence that they were romantically involved.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True. And would it really be so bad if he were? He may have been the Son of God, but he was also a man.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the Biblical cannon was widespread long before Constantine and the Edict of Milan, still during persecution, so even if the empire promoted it, they had nothing to do with the selection. And even if they did, I don't see how the books they chose or didn't choose support your theory at all... like, if the Bible said Jesus dated Mary, that would have ruined it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well Mary Magdeline was a whore

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't believe that for a second.
