+226 Many people get offended when someone says, "Merry Christmas", right? Well, why aren't there people who get offended when people say, "Happy 4th of July"? Even if you weren't born in America.. you still accept it, amirite?

I know.. Why aren't Canadians (Who are living in USA) offended when someone says "Happy Fourth of July"?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because many people who doesn't live in the US have no idea what happened at the 4th of July -.-

I've never actually seen anybody get when wished 'Happy Christmas'. In fact if anybody has seen someone get offended by it please post here and tell me about it. thanks.

I had a friend who got fired from HEB because some atheist woman loudly complained about being wished Merry Christmas at said store. Not saying all atheists do this; the woman in this case happened to be an atheist

Its because christmas is a christian religion. And people are quite parsnickity when it comes to religious subjects. While fourth of july is a goverment holiday that stands for a nation. Same as convo de mayo... no ones uptight on nations and governments. Atleast not as much

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is a very good use of the word "parsnickity" :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha I thought it was tasteful:)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was! And it's a good thing you put the "At least not as much" after you said people aren't parsnickity about governments, you dodged a bullet there

I saw some controversy coming if I hadn't put that. I don't need any loop holes

I've never actually seen people getting offended at that here il Canada. I haven't seen that in India either where my extended family lives and that's a country of mostly Hindus. Every one goes around saying "merry Christmas and happy new year" in both places. Also, in Japan, where most people are atheists, people say merry Christmas all the time.

When hearing Merry Christmas (or especially 4th of July, every country has fourth of July, just not as independence day) you should be happy. It's the same as "have a good day," except for a specific day

I said Merry Christmas to a bunch of people and some of them were Jewish or Muslims and they didn't get offended. (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So you're saying that Christmas is an American-only tradition?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My fam gets wished Happy Hanukkah when we're Catholic...why not just say Happy Hanukkah when it's Hanukkah, Christmas when it's Christmas, etc.?
