+256 Atheists, just because you have more faith in gravity than god doesn't make you smarter than anyone who feels differently. It's not about being naive and believing in fairy tales, it's about faith. So please pretending that since you read one book by one guy with one degree that you are all knowing on the subject, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not all atheists do that. If someone's being condescending about your religion, maybe talk to them about it, instead of blaming all of atheism?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well you guys kinda say that all Christians shove their religions down your throats.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Again, not all of us.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an atheist and I love this post a lot. I know not all atheists do this (I don't think that was the main point of your post anyways) but if you read the huge religion debates in the comments, a lot of them do. Just let people have faith. Let people NOT have faith, I don't really care.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thanks for putting all Atheist in the same group. I appreciate it.

http://cari373.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/no_smoking_sign.jpg This, my friend, is a No Smoking sign. It's just a short way of saying, "Attention customers, please do not smoke cigarettes in our establishment." It's directed at all the customers... but say you don't smoke, so it doesn't apply to you. Big whoop. The No Smoking sign is for all customers, but you don't smoke, so you don't need to worry about it and think that the restaurant/store/hotel is saying that ALL people smoke, because they're not. Same with this post. It's directed at Atheists who act this way, but you're clearly not like them. SO IT DOESN'T APPLY TO YOU. Good day :3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i love this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No smoking signs are not directed at everyone, they are directed at smokers, hence why they say "No smoking." Anyone can read it, but it doesn't mean it's directed at everyone. This post says Atheists. That doesn't mean only Atheists will read it, it means it is directed at Atheists but everyone can read it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you kidding me? This post screams your name.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not even an Atheist. I'm agnostic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Faith in gravity? Faith is for when you have no evidence. Gravity doesn't need faith

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Faith is both belief and dependence, depending on the context. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thank you. You are definitely smarter than the OP.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

amen, there are too many ignorant atheists

by Anonymous 13 years ago

implying that there arent equally ignorant christians?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never implied that, Christains can also be ignorant, but half the time it seems atheists are harder at trying to fight their lack of beliefs

by Anonymous 13 years ago

While that's true I generally dont see many atheists I know fighting for what they believe unless they're told they're wrong in the first place by ignorant Christians. Also, wasnt sure if you were implying that so i put a question mark at the end cuz i wasnt sure. If everyone were agnostic the world would be a better place.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Atheists are just as good as debate as the general public, especially on amirite. There are many posts about atheists expressing their religion or lack of one, so yh I don't think you can stand by your first comment

by Anonymous 13 years ago

there are also many posts that mention getting to heaven or other god related things. for instance: http://www.amirite.net/489168 your missing the point. i can stand by my first comment, becasue there are ignorant christians. and ive seen more christians who have complete faith and will tell anyone that doenst believe that theyre wrong, than atheists who do the same. most atheists i know in real life, are agnostic, meaning they wont shun someone for not conforming.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I respect all religions and what they believe until they attack me/what I believe [I guess atheism isn't really a belief, but whatever] That's when I fight back. Or when they call me ignorant and/or stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly. i respect peoples religions as long as theyh dont tell me that im wrong, or that they're right and they know it. they can believe in what they want, but saying they know is a different story, becasue they dont. no one does.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post doesn't make a point. The third sentence has no relation to the second sentence, which has no relation to the first sentence.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're implying that Christians dont do the same things. You have a book too. It's called the Bible and I know a lot of crazy Christians who swear by it like it's the oxygen they breathe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*cue religious debate*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an atheist and I think this is a wonderful post. Most of the kids at my high school are "atheist". I find that these "atheists" are often condescending to the people of faith at my school, like by their inability to have faith in a higher power makes them better than them by default. It's shameful. Being in atheist isn't about being more intelligent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would hope everyone has faith in gravity, not just Atheists :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Another debate, Lord help us.. ha. only kidding don't attack me

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm an atheist, and I'm the process of reading the bible so I can know as much as I can about christian faith. And I go to church every once in a while to see what goes on there. I'm also learning about the jewish faith from my jewish friends.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats great! I did the same thing when I started wondering why I was a christian by default. I never really went to church (my dad is christian) and I never studied hebrew or went to a synagogue (my mom is jewish) so i started wondering. i went to church every sunday for a few weeks and participated in some jewish things similar to sunday mass and then made my decision that i wanted to be an atheist, becasue it just didnt make sense to me. but obviously its making sense to some people because lots do believe in it. nothing wrong with that. i just disagree with this post becasue its putting all atheists into the same boat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I think heaven sounds too good to be true, and the fact that there is a god who created the universe seems highly unlikely to me... and that's what I. Hate about this post as well. I hate when people generalize.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly. its not thats its not possible, becasue it certainly is. anything is. its just that its highly unlikely to atheists. to christians its not. lets all jusr respect others beliefs, with the stress on beliefs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I try hard to respect other's beliefs, but I had someone on here (not giving names) who told me my belief in evolution was "laughable". That crosses the line for me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right. I can respect peoples beliefs if they respect mine. The minute they tell me Im wrong and theyre right and thats that, I pull out everything I got.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Faith in gravity? Really?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh goodness... I have met many Christians who believe that they are smarter than me because I don't believe in God. Everyone's belief is different, but don't pretend like Christians aren't going around telling everyone that their religion is absolute and that the Bible is absolute proof. And THEN we have the Atheists come in and tell them they're stupid and wrong. Also, as an atheist, I only deny religion because I have no seen satisfactory proof after reading the Bible, going to church MANY times, having a super Christian grandma breath down my neck about God at a very young and impressionable age (she finally stopped being so religious), hanging out with my Jewish friends at temple on Friday nights, and going to the religious aspects (as well as the party aspects) of Hindu festivals. I don't even enjoy reading books by that one guy with that one degree, I find them boring. But Christians also put too much faith in the bible. Another thing: my half sister's step brother told h...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

er she was going to hell because she didn't believe in God. Guys, this is an 8 year old little boy. I've never heard of a little girl telling Christians they're wrong and stupid because there is no God. I'm just saying. To conclude, don't be a bitch and most of the atheists won't be bitches either. *end angry rant about how stupid everything is*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who said we only read one book?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does no one else see the irony of the last sentence? Reading a well-researched book written by an intelligent atheist does not make one knowledgeable, but a book written millennia ago by more or less unidentified people DOES contain correct information about the entire history of the world?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I lol'd when i read that. I was like "you basically just described catholicism."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Let's be honest, Atheists who deny the existence of God but do not claim that he for sure does not exist are the most sensible group of people here. If we're using intelligence as a synonym for having common sense, then yes, this particular type of Atheist is more "intelligent" than religious folk. Atheists only take something as fact when evidence has proven its legitimacy. Religious people reject facts and believe what they want on NO evidence, and frankly, that shows a complete lack of common sense. Religious people can be more "book smart" in some cases I suppose, but book smart =/= logical or sensible. By the way, I'm not Atheist, so I'm not even trying to prove my own elevated intelligence. I'm just looking at the situation objectively.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i only respect religious people if they admit that they dont actually know. you can believe in whatever you want to, just dont tell me Im wrong, cuz you dont know that, and neither does anyone else.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People need to realize that its not just one type of religion that has people that shove it down your throat. There are many different people that do this. Why should it matter what religion anyone has? Unless they are hurting someone physically, I don't see a problem with it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

cool so where did jesus get his degree?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Each to his own I guess. I dislike religious people shoving religion down other peoples throat and ignoring obvious scientific findings but I also dislike atheists who think they are smarter than everyone because they think they know "truth" (whatever the "truth" is). Of course, not all atheists are like that- many are well informed people who respect others, and not all people who believe in a religion feel the need to be pushy. Also, everyone deep down is going to feel that their belief is right and superior to others (otherwise why would they believe in it?).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We have proof of gravity, it's the thing holding us to the earth. Where is God?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, according to empiricism, there is no proof of gravity, but only the proof that everything falls when held at a height...... :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, but the modern scientific method isn't based entirely on empiricism

by Anonymous 13 years ago

while i agree with all the "not all _____ do _____" comments, i won't expand on them again. what i will point out is that because we atheists have to find an alternate explanation for existence, we do tend to be more like experts in the things we use in that endeavor. this does not, however, make us smarter, or necessarily arrogant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You guys base your faith on one book written by people with no degrees
