THANKS!

This is going to come across as harsh, but you need to get used to it. Most teachers aren't good at teaching / teach directly from the book and have illegible handwriting. You need to get used to teaching yourself and using all the resources you have to get a good grade, because this doesn't actually count as an excuse.

shut up

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're probably a bad teacher.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i have to agree. i switched teachers, kept the same class and the class average dropped 15%

I got a C in algebra last year. Almost everyone did, and we all failed the same chapters. I don't think this is a coincidence.

Teach yourself. Welcome to life. When you get a job, don't expect anyone to hold your hand - you'll have to learn on your own. Same applies to high school and college.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Then whats the point of there being teachers..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

to help. They can help all they want, but unless you put effort to learn the material, you get nothing out of it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Then why the hell even go to high school or college? I've had good teachers and I've had bad teachers. There's a big difference. Sure if you try hard enough you can pass classes easily, but just because you get an A does that mean you learn anything?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Of course not. Most people only memorize the info to spit back out on a test, then forget about it. Just because someone gets an A, that doesn't mean they learned anything - probably just memorized. You have to at least meet the teacher halfway - they can' learn the material for you. Don't be lazy.

I learned something about this in psychology. It was like when the student is doing well then it's because they're smart. But if they are doing poorly then it's because of the teacher. But I don't remember the name of the effect because my teacher sucks at teaching.

I lol'd.

selfserving bias

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So if the teachers are at fault for your failures, aren't they they the reason for your successes? I guess you never had a good teacher that taught you about responsibility and learning on your own.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm failing math. My teacher is a 72 year old, monotone, crazy cat lady, who has an insane obsession with soup. I fully blame her for my bad grade.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know what doesn't tell you about soup or cats? The textbook, the one that teaches the same thing as your teacher. You need to put yourself in her shoes as a 72 year old still teaching a group of ungrateful brats.

Are you a teacher? You kind of come off as one, defending the assholes who claim to be shaping America's future. Shouldn't you be, oh I don't know, teaching? Grading papers? THIS IS WHY PEOPLE FAIL.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No I'm not a teacher, and yes I agree some teachers are assholes. But people who have an issue and to just give up and blame everyone else are bigger assholes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm in the middle on this. I do think kids blame the teacher too much, when they're the ones not trying. But from personal experience there def is such a thing as bad teachers too. I failed my entire freshman year. And it wasn't because I was stupid or not trying. In the STAR testing I was above average for everything. Everything that was generic from the book. In class I just had teachers that didn't give a fuck. Didn't give me the time of day when I needed help. I ended up dropping out and doing a home school program where I met wth a teacher for an hour once a week. Even just being there an hour he was amazing. He was a great. Who cared. And helped.

My science teacher annoys me. She's nice enough, but she's not a good teacher. She does nothing but lecture and over explain stuff. She doesn't make it interesting. Then, on her tests it's mainly multiple choice but at least one short answer worth two points. Your answer can be completely right but she's like "Well, you should have put (some obscure fact that you would only put if you were lucky) so I took off a point for that." It makes NO SENSE! It makes me mad.
