-118 Why do trains have to advertise that they're trains with all the loud horn noises and whatnot? You don't see cars going around randomly honking to let everyone know that they're cars, amirite?

They're not so much simply announcing that they're trains as they are announcing that they're giant, fast-moving metal objects that cannot move out of the way and have been known to kill people (sometimes one person on a track, or several people on a train in the station that were the victims of a collision) that would really //not// like to kill anyone right now.

I voted YYA because this is funny. When you live right next to the tracks, train horns can be pretty fucking annoying. Sometimes it sounds like the drivers are just honking to be dicks.... that's what I would do if I drove a train.

Because stealthy trains kill people.

They honk in NY to tell you they're skipping the station.

They have to use their horns in certain situations for legal reasons; they're not just blowing to blow.
