You just can't immigrate to a country and not speak the national language, amirite?

Well as long as they put some effort into learning...

but the thing it my grandma isn't even trying to learn she just keeps saying random things in a crazy foreign language
by Anonymous14 years ago
Then she should learn how to speak the language or go back D:

that's what I'm saying, but they just talk to her in random foreign language instead of enforcing english

Well if she's not trying to get a job or do anything outside where it involves English then it's okay I guess.

good point, i just don't like having to ask someone to tell me what she's saying

The thing is that if you are from say, Peru, where they speak spanish, and come to live in my town, NYC, then almost half the population is hispanic and 3/4 of the rest speak it! I personally don't, but whatev!

we should help people to learn the language but I believe more and more people will learn it the longer they stay here as well. outright refusal to speak the language however is just plain silly. That's just being a dick.
