+78 It sad that some of the smartest kids, who take on the most rigorous coursework available, are more prone to drugs and alcohol than all of the other kids, amirite?

Not necessarily a terrible thing, There were these genius kids at my school that would ace advanced exams stoned. Why not enjoy some ganja if you KNOW you have the brains/grades to get into a good school?

Hell, I get smacked too, no shame in that.

Depends on what you mean. Smart kids being more likely to try drugs period? I think that's pretty cool. We need more smart, responsible drug-users. Smart kids being more likely to abuse drugs to cope? That //is// sad.

I made this post a while ago, so I had a different outlook on drugs at the time. Now I see certain drugs, namely marijuana, as a tool for coping with certain situations. I had my non-stop "let's get high for the hell of it" phase, but now I understand how useful it can actually be when used correctly. So it's not necessarily sad if it's used for coping; it just depends how it's used.

It definitely depends on your outlook. I was raised in a very "tough" kind of a way. I don't complain about my problems, and I don't run away from my problems. I hate having this mind-set, but I automatically think any kind of coping is weakness. I still think it's pretty sad, even if it's not necessarily being abused.

I can understand that. So yeah, depends on outlook.

It's sad that any type of people are more "prone" to drugs than others, but I imagine that if a person allows hard drugs rule their life they're not very smart.

Nobody said anything about the drugs being "hard."

But when anyone sees a fact like this all potheads suddenly think they're fucking geniuses.

A couple kids in my school got suspended for showing up to homecoming drunk. One of them was cheer captain, on SGA, and is taking AP classes. She's been kicked out of the first two, and for the third some teachers are letter he watch lessons through skype on an iPad. I also find it interesting how some parents will send their kids to a private school to try and avoid them getting into fights and doing drugs (Our public schools are often thought of as "Ghetto"), and the private school kids typically do more drugs than people in my school, because they have more money.
