If you were marrying the right person, why would anyone object? Besides, you do have an option to include that in the vows or not. So no worries. :)

No offense, but I don't see why others should be asked if they have any objections. Who's getting married? the couple or the audience?? Like WTF? That's not how people from my culture married. Again, no offense intended.

It's a remnant of when couples had to announce their intentions to get married three Sundays in a row before their wedding so that anyone from the parish could object. It was to catch unlawful marriages, such as a wedding where the bride was already married. These days it can be used if someone finds out a terrible secret just before the wedding or to create a dramatic moment in a bad movie.
