It was a joke. Because you said HP fans were dumb, I responded with a HP joke. On this site, most people are HP fans and hate Twilight, so people that say the contrary are usually just trying to get a rise out of people and stir up some caps lock rage.

It's not fair to judge people just because they like a book series. What if I were to say I disliked all My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fans such as yourself? It would be judgmental and unfair. I can't know that I don't like you simply because you watch a equestrian-themed TV show. In most cases, your taste doesn't affect who you are (and by who you are, I mean your personality and otherwise individual traits).

I've already heard numerous people say they dislike the fans of MLP. I really don't care, and HP fans shouldn't care either when someone dislikes them.

The act of disliking a person isn't what I'm arguing against. I'm disputing your *reasoning* for disliking said people. For example, you could say you don't like me because of my annoying nature, my tendency to be outspoken, or my excessive use of the word "like," but disliking me just because I enjoy a fictional story is a bit ridiculous. What if someone very close to you nonchalantly mentioned that they were happily rereading Half-Blood Prince last night because it's their favorite book? Would that honestly affect your opinion of them in such a way that you would no longer even like them?

1. You're taking the post too literally. I'm not sure if it's the right word, but I think this was meant as a hyperbole. 2. The books had a lot more info and awesomeness than the movies, which had to rely on pyrotechnics and visual effects to be good. Harry Potter is just one of those books that convey so much more than the movies, and you should experience that (the HP universe in its entirety) before calling yourself a true fan.

I took the post as literally as it was intended, which is that people who read books are better fans than people who watch films. Any book that got turned into a movie is going to be better in book form, that is how it is, Harry Potter is nothing special. The films cover everything significant that happens in the books, and what that means is that they //can// stand alone, and are intended to do so, which means they're //meant// as a way that the franchise can be enjoyed by someone who hasn't read the books. People who like Harry Potter like it for the story, not the pyrotechnics nor the visual effects, and not for the eloquence with which it was written, which means that the only difference is that the books have slightly more content, and by that logic, you're even more of a fan if you haven't read the books, but you've completed the playstation games and done every side quest.

The movies could stand alone, but there are a lot of intricacies and stuff that weren't covered. And yeah, the biggest fans would be those who finished the books, movies and games, but I'm not sure which means more, movies and games or movies and books.

One of my friends told me I wasn't a real fan because I had read all the books but hadn't seen the movies. She hadn't read any of the books but saw every movie in theaters. But you can be a fan about whatever you want as long as you like it. It'd be different if you said you were the biggest HP fan ever and hadn't read the books, though.

I don't think the post is about what you can and cannot do, it's more about defining what a hp fan is. A TRUE hp fan, op says, will have read the books, and if they haven't, then that casts doubt on their qualifications for being categorized as an hp fan. If you REALLY like it, why wouldn't you read the books, as they are the main bulk of the franchise and the source of it all? You could say a true Christian is one who has read the Bible, or that a true Nintendo fan will have played the classics. Ignoring a massive part of it means that you can't really be a fan of it as a whole. In this case, if you haven't read the books, it would be more appropriate to call yourself a fan of the hp films, than hp in general. It's just a matter of definition.

You know some people are fans of books and some people are fans of the film industly. Both literature and film can be incredibly beautiful so i disagree with the post. Both tell the story, even is the books have more detail.
