-290 Americans: you didn't learn any American geography until high school, but you learned plenty of geography from all over the rest of the world, Amirite?

Fourth grade Social Studies was based mostly around US geography and Russia.

In elementary school we knew all the states and capitals. And in middle school we learned all of Europe and Africa.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was the opposite for me. We learned the fifty states and capitals in third grade and we did Asian geography in ninth grade.

what kind of schools did you go to where they didnt teach you US geography? and honestly, if you hadnt been formally taught about it, you shouldve picked up on where things are over time...

We only did geography once, in 5th grade, and it was US geography. We never did world geography. I know every state capital, but my world capitals are kind of sucky. Everything I know about world geography I taught to myself.

I learned American and World/International geography all through elementary school/middle school. It was required that we memorize the 50 State Capitals and be ready for the teacher to randomly ask us which capital belonged to which state. Now in high school, we're still doing geography, but it's more integrated into history and such. We still have to be ready for random quizzes and such though =P But now it's on an international level. Today my teacher asked me the capital of Cameroon >.>

I didn't have many geography lessons in school, that's kind of something you should just pick up from life experience...

I learned about the U.S states in 1st grade.

In 7th grade, my class learned all the states and capitols of the US, all the provinces and capitols of Canada, and all the countries in the Middle East and Asia and their capitols. (Including major land features in all.) No joke, she would give us a test on each (Us, Canada, Middle East, Asia), and when we passed it, then she gave us a blank political map and told us to fill it in. I learned European countries in 9th when we had to read the book "Night" about the Holocaust (in English class).

What the fuck? Is this a British troll or something?

my dad: Do you know where Sao Paulo is? me: no... I am horrible at world geography... but okay at American geography.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most of the high schoolers (in my area) know world geography but most adults are clueless.

what the hell kind of schooling system where you in ?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I had to memorize all of the African countries in 5th-6th grade T_T

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I learned US geography in depth in 4th grade, then did Africa and some of Asia in 5th. In 6th I did Europe. It wasn't until this year, 10th, that I've done anything with South America though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In 7th grade, our teacher would give us blank political maps and have us fill them in for tests. First it was the U.S. and all its states, and then Central and South America, Africa, Europe, ect... until we had been tested on every continent. Granted, I forgot a lot of it.

Y'all trippinn! this is just cuz the U.S. has its own leagues for everything and never plays other countries. I got my shit down cuz my dad got me into Soccer and Cricket, but i watch my homeboy Kobe as well =)

Who the hell take geography in high school? You're supposed to already know that shit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At my elementry school we did American history but not geography and all of middle school was world geography and world history n American geography.

Not to be disrespectful here, but if Americans learn all in the above comments (which is pretty good), then why on earth am I continually having to tell people where Australia is located and deal with the constent myths?
