Actually, most times I pick up a book I can only see the spine, so really I judge it by its title. Then I'll flip to the very last page and scan to see if it ends well.

No shit Sherlock, that's why the saying goes, "DON'T judge a book by it's cover" because people DO judge a book by it's cover... why would it tell people not to do something people don't already do? "Hey don't judge a book by the way it falls when you throw it out of the third story building inside an airplane in an underwater cruise ship in Alaska on Pluto!"
