+151 Even if you believe that Darwinian evolution is true, it is wrong to deny tenure to someone becuase they have considered intelligent design as a possibility, amirite?

Using the above example (a science teacher), you have no right to deny them a job because they believe in creationism or intelligent design (it shouldn't come up in an interview, as it's illegal to ask questions relating to a person's religion in a job interview). But they shouldn't be teaching their personal beliefs in lieu of evolution in a science class. Evolution is part of science, which is their job. Creationism is not.

I live in the Bible Belt and people act so shocked when they hear someone's not Christian. So when our science teacher was teaching the big bang theory, she had to say "Don't get offended by this lesson, I'm teaching it to you because I have to. Just learn it for the test and after you can believe and say whatever you want." I thought it was good she said that.

And vica-versa. It's okay to believe in intelligent design. It's also fine to believe in Evolution. Whatever floats your boat.

I'm going to say this, and it may start a fiery debate, or it may start some thinking. Sup AtheisticMystic. Belief doesn't change fact. We can believe that God created the world and everything in it, we can believe that evolution happened, or we can believe that... whatever. Regardless, we shouldn't base our beliefs on blind faith, or on what we want to believe, rather, we should analyze facts and decide based on those.

The idea of intelligent design doesn't outright deny evolution. I don't know why people insist on separating them, as if you can only believe one or the other is right.

The day everyone just agrees to disagree and not argue over beliefs the universe will probably implode because we made something truly impossible happen.
