because it shows you have self-control, self- respect, the innocence of youth, you don't have to worry about the emotional attachments that come along with sex, no possibilities of pregnancies or std's and a few other reasons, but i think this list is long enough (:

if you have sex only with one person and you're in a committed relationship, you have less chances of catching stds. As for emotional attachment, it's going to happen one day or another. But if you're young, you're right, just steer clear of sex until you can make sure you're doing it with the right person and not endangering yourself.

ummm if your virginity is all that important to you then of course save it til marriage but I think you can find the right person that youre going to want to lose it with someday whether youre married or not. I don't think losing your virginity shows a lack of self-control or self-respect at all, or a loss of innocence. It's your decision to make and if you respect your own decision to have sex, how are you disrespecting yourself? Use protection, limit your partners, and be smart. If you can't have sex the safe way, you aren't ready.

I'm not saying that people should stay virgins forever, obviously, I'm just saying that its a good thing to hold on to it for a while (:
