+529 Most people do not appreciate what they had until it's already gone. That explains why Americans are so obsessed with English accents, amirite?

American accents are closer to the accents of the Victorian or Shakespearian age than modern British accents.

I clicked this specifically to make that comment but you beat me to it haha

Damn the revolution...

I actually don't like British accents.

It goes both ways. My mom was telling me that when she went to England and Scotland, everyone was asking her to say things because they loved her "accent".

are you sure they were not mocking her?

Yup. People find foreign accents in general attractive.

When we had a teacher from Oklahoma we kept telling him to talk more so we could make fun of his accent... (then again, where I'm from every single part of the country completely ridicules the accent of the others)

People from Oklahoma have really stupid accents. I think everyone has a right to make fun of southern accents (I'm from Texas and apparently I have a slight accent, so I guess I shouldn't talk... but it's not that bad), even though British people apparently like those accents too... It's just from what I've heard.

every different area has a different accent. Brits can barely understand eachother sometimes. (Not to mention Scotland with its gazilion different accents relatively close to one another). It's just that no one sees their own accent(your slight accent might be quite noticeable by non-texans). I'm not meaning to insult your mother, but "fascinated by your accent" was meant as derogatory 90% of the times I've heard it...

I've actually never noticed my accent, it's only when I say certain words that I've been told by my Minnesotan family that I have a very slight accent, but I'm from a city. Really? I've actually rarely heard it in a derogatory way. Meh, it doesn't matter. I enjoy accents... Especially Irish and Estonian ones.
