+349 If you actually think about it, a time machine would be one of the worst inventions ever. Think about it, everyone would be going back into the past to undo all of their mistakes, which could change the lives of others around them. amirite?

If the time machine were ever invented we would probably know about it by now. Unless the future kept it a secret.... but why bust your ass on a fucking awesome machine and keep it to yourself?

Ah, but that's something I've thought about. Naturally, the idea is that if people were going nuts with trying to change the past, we'd notice. However, SOMEONE has to live out the original timeline, unchanged by time traveling shenanigans! Also, there's the theory of whenever history is altered, the timeline just fractures into a new line, leaving the old one as is.

Even if you use a time machine to go back in time, you won't change anything. At the time that you travelled, if you met your past self to fix a mistake you would have remembered it from long ago when you made said mistake.

There are two ways this could work. One like that, and one being that there are new timelines that could be created with each trip to the past. How have you not seen Back to the Future?

This is known as the grandfather paradox. Why time travel into the past isn't possible.

I've always thought that if we ever create the time machine, it'd be awesome to go back in time to when humanity first started, introduce our technology to them so that they advance faster. Thus making us even more advanced.

I don't know if it would work though.

"What would you do with a time machine?" *Teleports in from future and says: "This."

Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That would suck. If people corrected their mistakes, I wouldn't even be here!
