+1,108 As a kid, you felt kind of depressed when no one picked you for heads up seven up, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha.. I cheated at that game. I would see what type of shoes they were wearing and call them out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahaha I think everyone did, I know I did. :^P

We were the smart ones of the group.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes we were! ^_^ But that's not how I knew I was a smart one of the group. I knew because I used words that the other kids didn't understand and got called an egghead because of it. lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it was called "7 up"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was NEVER picked...8(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

:^( Let's get all the amiriters together for a massive game of it, then you'll be picked for sure!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

as a kid, I still feel depressed when this happens

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahaha Nice. I would, too, if my teachers still let us play the game. :^P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and I would feel so loved if I got picked every round.

My FUCKING God! Upset =/= Depressed. STFU already. "Oh gee, I flunked a quiz today and I'm like sooo depressed now." It's not just another word for sad or upset, so stop using it as such.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can you please relax? We all know that depression is a severe illness or whatever, but technically, depression is when your brain makes you feel sad, but upset is when you make your brain feel sad. Sometimes you can't help feeling a little depressed. It's not like he said "you feel severely mentally depressed when..." Depression comes in all shapes and sizes.

I've seen this far too often in teen-talk nowadays so I'm bothered. I won't ever believe "depressed" is simply another way to say "upset".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean anything by the word, I know it means (of a person) suffering from clinical depression, but it also means in a state of unhappiness. I should have been a little more sensitive to the readers and used a lighter word. I hope you accept this as an apology.

I appreciate that, thank you for the clarification. :^)

1) (geography) an area that is lower in topography than its surroundings 2) (psychology) in psychotherapy and psychiatry, a state of mind producing serious, long-term lowering of enjoyment of life or inability to visualize a happy future 3) (psychology) in psychotherapy and psychiatry, a period of unhappiness or low morale which lasts longer than several weeks and may include ideation of self-inflicted injury or suicide Not once does the dictionary ever say that depression is feeling upset for 2 minutes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fuck off. I'm sorry we aren't as smart as you, but depression can be shorter than "several weeks". A man can be depressed for a week after a break-up, a girl can be depressed for two days when her Dog has to go to a Doggy Day Care. A kid can be depressed for half an hour if he or she isn't picked in heads up seven up. Depressed CAN, in fact, be used as another word for sadness.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't say I was smarter, I said I was angry at the false use of the term. I know what it's like not to get picked in a game, I've felt it as a child, and it was nowhere near depressing. I was just upset. If my cat had died or friend moved away, even at age 10 I'd be qualified to be pronounced depressed, but no less.

Main Entry: sad Part of Speech: adjective Definition: unhappy, depressed I believe that is all.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, I agree, but not every fucking sad and unhappy is depressed. That's why there is an extended vocabulary with similar but varying words to express EXACTLY how one feels. Upset is what is in the post, depressed is those examples you mentioned in 1028937. Main Entry: courage Part of Speech: noun Definition: boldness, braveness Has that bold student who stood up to the teacher and proved them wrong, the same exact characteristic as the guy who fought a bear and lived? That's what words were MADE for! To differentiate between specifics of one grand subject. Depressed is a kind of sad, just like upset, and they're different even though very similar. Main Entry: fear Part of Speech: noun Definition: alarm, apprehension ? I can be scared without being alarmed, and so can I be without apprehending but instead just alarmed.
