+222 Contrary to popular belief, screamo music isn't all about death and pain. Most of them are poetry, and if you actually take the time to learn the lyrics, you would understand, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ROFL@hardcore ignorant people who voted no way and didnt go look up some lyrics

by Anonymous 13 years ago

arent they just awesome?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All genres have some songs with poetic lyrics.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My favorite screamo song poem goes like: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSDJFHUSAHIODFA OHHHAHHHHAHHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHSHHHUASHH ADFJSKJFAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your favorite song is "The Circle of Life" too?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This may be true, but the reason I don't like screamo is because I like happy, bouncy melodies or slow, powerful ballads. I just don't like the way this genre sounds.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are screamo songs with happy bouncy melodies. Take Attack Attack! for example, or BrokeNCYDE to an extent

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not limited to screamo, either. Bands like Epica sound really dark and, as my friend said, devil-worshipping, but they're really not. Most of their songs have very good meanings.. people just don't realize it. <_>

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I always laugh when I'm listening to the devil wears prada, or even skillet, and people say I'm listening to Satan worshiping music

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I love TDWP, but their songs are totally off the wall - lyrics, music, song titles, everything lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A lot of their song lyrics are actually bible references, but yeah their song titles are completely off the wall lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not to mention skillet is religious...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As is the devil wears prada

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I tend to listen to music that goes along with their song lyrics.. Like Taylor Swift: Good, happy melodies, good, happy lyrics. Not "Roseeessssssss arrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee rrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeedddddddd, Vioooolettttssss are bluuuuee, Candyyyyyyy issssss swwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeettt. Juuuuust. Liiiikkkkkkeeeeee. YYYYYYYOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That doesn't really make sense

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I could not agree with this post more :] Hardcore , post hardcore, metalcore = LIFE <3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

my parents are like that they hate some what i listen too, oh well. good post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Isn't all music poetry... >.> okay, maybe not "Friday."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"fuck bitches, get money"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But there is a lot better poetry in other song lyrics that is better for your ears.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How is it "better" for your ears?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Tegan and Sara do not sound like fingernails on a chalkboard, and they do not make you want to rip your ears off of your head when you listen to them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ronnie Radke has a beautifully deep voice, it's melodic and soothing, and Shawn Milke from Alesana and Jeremy DePoyster both have amazing voices.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I absolutely LOVE Ronnie. I really do miss him in escape the fate, though. But, I won't rant about who is the better lead singer in escape the fate. However, I will say i like bless the fall a LOT more now than i did, even though i was a fan before then. Ronnie made the band unique. They just sound so... bleh, now. I suppose they have their reasons for kicking him out. (I'm being unusually mature about this particular topic. I stand by Ronnie in the debate.) Alesana is definitely one of the better screamo bands. (screamo is my preference) I'm really into the emptiness at the moment, as I was with past albums. I really like the reference to Edgar Allan Poe, and the story written in the songs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

call me picky, but if a song has nice lyrics, i actually like being able to understand them and not have them growled at me. if i didn't want singing i'd listen to "friday".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what's great about post-hardcore music, it's a nice combination of clear and screamed vocals

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have aactually taken the time t listen to the lyrics. It's true but the thing is how they sing it. The people that don't listen, don't listen to it because of the screaming. They would listen to it if it had a better beat or way of singing it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's completely understandable. If you don't like the style you dont like the style. I just find that when I'm talking to people, most of them don't like it because they say it's "evil" music simply because of the style. Although I do disagree with you on the "better beat or way of singing" part, because I don't think any way of singing is better than another, it just appeals to different people

by Anonymous 13 years ago

anybody who says music is evil is fucking stupid. I don't care what genre it is. A song could have lyrics like "kill all the jews, and spill the blood of the innocents, and than fuck your sister" and i would never take them seriously. In fact i'd probably laugh at the over the topness of it all. Simply put if you want to communicate a negative message, why the hell are you singing it. There's a reason mein kompf wasn't a musical ballad.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, if there are "poetic" lyrics to these songs, I should be able to hear it in the song. I should not have to look Google to find out what the fuck they are shouting about.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Y'know, if you listen to the song more than once, you can understand what they are saying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely agree with this post(: I absolutely cannot stand when someone says "TDWP is nothing but a satanist band" when they've never even heard the music, and chances are it's only because they saw the name. Plus, it just makes them sound stupid in the end, because people who take the time out to listen to the devil wears prada know they are a religious band. Another thing i can't stand is when people see what type of music I'm into and say "You cut yourself don't you, because screamo is for emos." Can you be MORE ignorant and judgmental. The music I listen to has nothing to do with any of that. To be able to say you don't like screamo for a certain reason, you should at least have a little knowledge on screamo. e.g. bless the fall, escape the fate, asking alexandria, alesana, the devil wears prada etc. to back up your argument. "Screamo is stupid." or "Screamo is full of devil worshipers." is not an argument

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm going to see asking Alexandria next Friday :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you going to put them on your tumblr?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yep

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lucky! I have never seen them live! I really want to, though. Who are they playing with, and where? Tell me when you post it!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They are playing with Miss May I, Emmure, Evergreen Terrace, Chiodos, and some local bland up in calgary. It's gonna be great

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am so glad emmure is getting recognition!! I actually just found them out recently when I was on stickam and andrew bisante's live was screaming "WON'T you beeeee myyyy briiiide!!!"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I had never heard of them before this concert lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I only heard the one song by them, but that was enough for me to love them. (:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you know... a post that starts out with "contrary to popular belief" should be in negative.. otherwise it's not really contrary to popular belief...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I shouldn't have to look up the lyrics every time I listen to music just to know what the song is saying.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Agreed, which is why I don't listen to pop or rap, I can understand what they are screaming

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I guess it depends on what you're used to listening to. I don't listen to a lot of pop or rap on my free time, but since I do a lot at dance, I can understand what they're saying.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, and it also depends on the mood I'm in. I'm usually in a really energetic mood so really hardcore or heavy songs just get me jacked up. But I've got other stuff like nevershoutnever, paramore, and 30 seconds to mars, and even a bit of eminem and country

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hey, i understand the beatles just find and they we're pop. All of they're songs are perfectly clear... except i am the walrus... the premise of that song eludes me.
