+303 How would it feel to die with a secret? If you couldn't tell your parents you were gay, or if you couldn't tell your wife you cheated. It's unfair for someone to die without clean conscience because they fear the reaction, amirite?

It's not like it will matter to you once you're dead.

Technically everyone is dying with heaps of tiny secrets - think about it, no one knows everything about you. I guess if it's something that really eats you up inside, then let it out.

In certain situations, it's definitely better to die with the secret than to reveal it on your death bed. Does your wife really need to know that you cheated on her as she sits with you holding your hand as you die?

If I knew I was going to die in a few weeks or a few months, I would tell everyone the things that I had held back throughout the years, but I do tend to agree with the person in the comments above me.

I think it's sad if people feel that they have to keep things like being gay a secret, but if you cheat on your spouse, it's your own fault.

I wouldn't really put being gay and cheating on your wife in the same category as far as guilt goes.

I completely disagree. With your logic it's like, "Well since I'm going to die, I should just unload all of my bullshit so my conscience is clear for all of my last 17 hours and leave my family to deal with it for years." If you absolutely had to tell someone I would choose an objective party or close friend that is unaffected. This actually happened in my family. My great aunt, on her death bed confessed to her family that she had had an affair with the next door neighbor and conceived a son and decided to keep it and tell her husband it was his child. Fast forward 20 some years, that son of the affair and the daughter of the next door neighbor fell in love, got married, and had children never knowing that they were half-siblings! Well my great aunt announced this and died two days later. Thank God she got that off her chest! While her son and his wife (aka his half-sister) have to deal with accidental incest and their children probably feel ashamed that they're parents are sibling.
