+132 America has an almost unhealthy obsession with its flag, amirite?

I think it was the effects of being at war with Communism. Also why Americans tend to over-use words like "freedom", because Stalin and Communist-run countries were seen as "unpatriotic" and they were the enemies, so America decided to up the patriotism. Also why "Communist" is an insult in America, even now, where in Europe some people freely admit that their support their National Communist party. Also religion, America tends associate religion with politics and patriotism more than other countries, because the Communists were very a-religious, so to be seen as different from them, love of God in the US was seen as equal to love of your country. Just speculation on stuff I've noticed.

I don' think it's an obsession with the material flag. It's with what the flag represents. Like the pledge of the allegiance is not literally pledging the flag but rather "to the republic for which it stands." We are very patriotic, though, but other countries are like this, too. We just aren't paying as much attention to them.
