It's a right in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is considered a charter by the United Nations.

touche, article 16. Intended to protect the rights of a child in an arrainged marriage. That is what choice of spouse means, however I can see where it can be applied to gay marriage.
However, corperations used the 14th amendment in the US constitution to gain obscene power when it was for the rights of free slaves. Laws should really be less vague, lawers WILL find loopholes.
