Huh, this kind of makes me wonder now - how long do you have to wait before "British settlers" (British history) become just "Americans" (US history)? :S

If you studied every previously owned colony's history in depth you'd have way too much to get through, and it isn't as important to learn as things that were happening within your borders at the time.
