Its hard to imagine the fact that space goes on forever and ever, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Probably because it doesn't.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You know what? You're right. There's just a gigantic wall at "the edge of the universe" that you crash into if you go far enough...
by Anonymous13 years ago
Haha you're making yourself look like a moron. The universe DOES have an end. It's not like a wall, but it's continuous, not never-ending.

(Your+name+(optional)): According to the Big Bang Theory (not the show. Don't even think about the show), the Big Bang created matter, taking the form of clouds of gas called nebulae. Gravity pulled on the gas, compressing it until it became a star. From thereon, everything expanded. Galaxies formed, with everything slowly separating from each other. There may be a border of the explosion, where the stars may end, but space is always continuous.
by Anonymous13 years ago
You don't get it though, space is curved. I'm not talking about matter or anything but Einstein said that If you go in a straight line forever and ever, you'll eventually get to the place where you started
by Anonymous13 years ago
If that's the case, then space doesn't really have an end...
by Anonymous13 years ago
But it's not infinite
by Anonymous13 years ago
It doesn't though. Scientists can see the end of it with their super duper telescopes (I'm sure it has a real name)
by Anonymous13 years ago
(Your+name+(optional)): "Telescopes".
by Anonymous13 years ago
Wow thanks. I meant I'm sure they're extremely advanced telescope that can see the end of the universe has a name. And YES, it does have an end. Whoever voted me down should help themselves to a science book.
by Anonymous13 years ago
(Your+name+(optional)): I didn't vote you down...
by Anonymous13 years ago
I didn't say you, that's why I said whoever. Because I learned it in a science class, but it was years ago so I don't remember all the terms for it, but it doesn't go on forever.
by Anonymous13 years ago
(Your+name+(optional)): "Finite".
by Anonymous13 years ago
(Your+name+(optional)): except scientists can't see the edge of the universe, since light has to travel to our eyes first, and the universe has only existed for so long
by Anonymous13 years ago
I try to imagine it like a sphere but only the sphere of space, just like we as humans cannot escape earth (without help from space shuttles etc...) we cannot escape the sphere of space...
it's hard to explain with words
by Anonymous13 years ago
no one can fathom it. it's impossible.
by Anonymous13 years ago
^^^ But people will always try to as we can see. vvvv
by Anonymous13 years ago
Space as we know it has an end but there is likely an area outside our universe. The universe isn't infinite, nothing is, it's just really big. Even the area outside the universe can't be said to be "space" as it may follow different dimensional and physical laws than what we know. Do not try to grasp the concept of infinite, the only two men who every tried to work it out mathematically have not met good results: one died and the other went insane.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Who were these men? I'm interested. :O
by Anonymous13 years ago
@1061549 (canthink): You know i don't know. It was something my calculus professor told us when we were learning limits.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Got it. I'm gonna have to research this later. ^.^
Thanks though!
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm not surprised one went insane. Just trying to think about it makes my brain want to pop.
by Anonymous13 years ago
it is continuously expanding, which essentially is the same thing
by Anonymous13 years ago
People should really read Einstein's theories
by Anonymous13 years ago
The universe is a donut. And I am going to eat it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
omnomnonmnomnomnomnom.
by Anonymous13 years ago
These are the kinds of things that keep people up at night.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I bet its a continuous loop, in a doughnut shape. If you go far enough in one direction you will make it back to your starting point.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It disturbs me how most of the correct answers have negative votes...
by Anonymous13 years ago
It's saddening that majority of people have no idea what they're talking about. The universe started expanding at the big bang and is actually speeding up (i'm not going into what this means for the end of time in this universe), the reason you can never get to the edge of the universe (aka there's no wall saying 'you've come too far' as the above comment so inquisitively put it) is because it's expanding at a rate too fast for any of us reach. We take 1 step and it takes 3.
But really, people in general should try to learn some facts before jumping to a conclusion they know nothing about <-- that's good advice for academics, social life and relationships. Just a good rule of thumb. Don't say things you're unsure of or just don't know about.
