"Legally" (but nobody gives a damn) you're supposed to leave at least about a 4 meter long space between your car and the car thats in front of you... in case if someone hits you from behind, you don't hit the car thats in front of you.

I feel more comfortable with a space between me and the next car. I've had my car come to a dead stop and before I could hit my caution lights,the guy behind me rolled right up and hit me. :|

Yup. My friend was a passenger in a truck that was 2nd in line at a stop light ... and they were hit by someone texting and driving, going 40 in a 30mph zone. The collision forced their truck into the car ahead of them.
