The early bird isn't really the one who gets the worm. The bird needs to be smart and quick to catch a worm, so the saying should be more like "The early, witty, and agile bird catches the worm", amirite?

Or, "The early bird gets the worm, unless of course the bird is slow and stupid. Then there is absolutely no chance the bird will catch the worm and it should have slept much later because now he'll just be slow, stupid, and very tired." I don't think that'll really catch on.
