+159 Goosebumps actually just make you feel colder. What's the point, amirite?

Goosebumps, if you believe in evolution, are a useless gene we still have that doesn't really do anything but it's there anyways, like the appendix. Way back in the day, our ancestors had goosebumps to feel warmer as a way of insulation. The more hair, the warmer you get. But we're humans. Unless you have a full rug on your chest and legs and arms, goosebumps don't do much. We don't even get goosebumps on our head where all the hair is so it really is useless. I wouldn't say goosebumps make you feel colder, though. They just tell you you're cold which just makes you pay more attention to how cold you are. But if you don't believe in evolution, then I guess we just have goosebumps because God made us that way. I don't know, ask him about it.

I think that perhaps they may decrease the body temperature ever so slightly. They increase the surface area of your skin and and allow heat to escape more rapidly. Probably not substantial, but it happens.

Fair enough, but in general, it's not very useful. There wouldn't be much of a change if the gene disappeared.
