I don't think it's considered abuse if the teacher is just tossing a frustrated insult at the whole class. Now, if he was singling out one student and only calling them an idiot, if it was a regular thing, if he'd ever made anyone cry doing this, or if he was doing it to deliberately bully someone, then yeah, fire his ass. But if they had to get rid of every teacher who ever threw a temper tantrum we'd all be being taught by robots.

My physics teacher from freshman year in high school quit, but was forced to leave instead of completing the year because some parent said their kid called him mean. Apparently he wasn't a well-liked teacher, and although he may not have been the best teacher, "mean" would not be a word to describe him generally, as he was often very friendly.

We actually had one of my teachers fired in high school after multiple complaints were filed in regards to her behavior. She told our class we were too stupid to do anything with our lives and didn't deserve to be in school, told a freshman to stick his finger in an electrical socket and die, went on a rant on how she hates Muslims and how the squirrels steal from her trash, and threatened to bring a gun one day and shoot us all because we were a waste of space. Needless to say, our principal was pissed, especially since we were her favored program (allied health medical science), and a full investigation occurred on her part with student interviews resulting in the firing of the teacher. We had a substitute for the rest of the year.
