+58 Teaching isn't the worst job, but it isn't the best. If you're an intelligent person who gets to go to a very prestigous school, it wouldn't make sense to study something stupid like teaching. amirite?

Teaching is something that should only be done if it's your calling, because otherwise your talent is being wasted, but if you're intelligent, at a prestigious school and you KNOW teaching is what you were meant to do, then there's nothing wrong in studying that.

one of my high school teachers went to Yale and became a lawyer in New York, started his own firm and made six figures a year. He said that once he turned into his 40s he realized that the money he got wasn't satisfying his life, as if his money became a means of representing who he is. Last year when I was a junior I had him for a theology course, and he told us his story. Then someone asked why he chose the shitty job of becoming a teacher at an all boys catholic school. He simply responded "why use what i know to earn money and prove to everyone that I'm powerful and successful, when I could use my experience and knowledge to help others become all that they can be?" or something around those lines. I mean from the outside if you have the opportunity to earn lots of money and whatnot, if you think that'll give you happiness, by all means pursue it. I guess some people just don't find happiness and satisfaction with money. I mean, from what I just wrote on here about this, I'd say he made an impression on my life. He's pretty successful in my eyes.

Something stupid like teaching? Fuck you anonymous asshole.

Who are you to define what the "best job" is? And anyway, teachers are important, and teaching is in no way stupid.

What if they decided to be a college professor at a prestigious university?

"it wouldn't make sense to study something stupid like teaching"... Says the ignorant fuck.

This "stupid" profession you're referring to educates the future of America, makes them more intelligent people, and without teachers, a good education system would not be possible. The people being educated today will be running the country tomorrow... Would you trust it in the hands of someone who doesn't even know how it runs?

unless teaching is your passion and you don't choose money over happiness.

One word: Dumbledore. On a side note, I would, however, hate to be a teacher.

what makes a good student? teaching or self-determination. I go along with the second. That is probably why some people disregard teaching. However, this stage only appears when the person has reached a certain maturity. Up to "that certain" maturity, teachers are essential
