No religious wars. No Medieval Crusades. No violence. No bombings. :)

No fighting over what God actually says. =]

Then everyone would be atheists.

No motivation for millions of people. No hope for after death. No reason to do anything selfless. No Heaven. :(

no heaven and hope after death, maybe. But no motivation? No reason to do anything selfless? Because all athiests are completely selfish? There's such a thing as morality and it's entirely independant of religion.

Apollo has the right idea though. We'd just be living day to day with nothing to look forward to after death. A constant cycle of live/die. No hope. If religion means war, I'd have to say Christ is worth the fight.

Christ is worth the fight. one hundred percent. I am a strong Christian and i firmly believe He is the only way. but putting that aside for a second, all religions give a moral and ethic code. without religion morality would be hard to come by because the guidelines set out by religion are interwoven in our laws. humans aren't naturally born with an accurate sense of wrong and right. this in itself makes religion necessary in culture.

@ Apoolo + Byrd, To be honest with you I find it kinda sad that there are so many people who can only derive hope and motivation from the fairytale promise of some utopian afterlife. Surely you would have more motivation to get up and do something amazing if you knew that this was your only chance to live. Religion just placates us and makes us content with ignorant lives. @100812. It's extremely shortsighted to claim that religion is necessary because it's the only way for humans to obtain a moral code. Children can be taught that killing other humans is wrong without going to a church(or other place of worship) and praying to some invisible man/woman/thing in the sky.

If there is no consequences after death, why shouldn't everyone just do what they want during life? If people knew that there was no eternal consequence for their actions, more people would do everything that they could get away with, which would inherently damage other people's lives. And if there's no benefit after death, why live a good life? Happiness in THIS life would be the main goal of everyone, and that would lead to people focusing on themselves (acting in a completely selfish manner), and the morals of the masses would deteriorate. Think about it; religion gives society more than just placation and ignorance. Rather it gives society reason to form society and not just live for ourselves.

Just because there are no consequences after death does not mean that there aren't consequences in life itself. If you commit a crime you are punished by your fellow man. Society has reached a point where it no longer needs religion because there are plenty of better, alternate sources from which we can get a moral structure. If what you say is true then surely we would see every atheist on the planet rushing around doing whatever the hell they wanted but you don't because of the social structure that is already in place. There is more to society than just religion.

I realize that atheists live generally good lives, but I'm just saying that there's no logical reason for them to. Even if every atheist lived a completely selfless life; giving to the poor, helping others, and such, what would the point be? Everyone they helped would still die, and then... nothing. No one would benefit from anything good in the long run, making it pointless- in the long run. So why do atheists do good? It's not logical, nor is it necessary for the survival of the species. So why do humans have a sense of right and wrong? I won't answer that for you. Think about it, considering every part of every angle. Be scientific and thorough in examining the facts, and then act upon what you discover.

I think we can go without hope of like after death and maybe it would encourage people to live life in the now and not restrict yourself because of what some false and fake god tells you.
