-242 You would cut an American flag in half for $5, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm not even American and I wouldn't do this...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why not?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because one, it's illegal. Two, it's just plain rude. I'd be incredibly offended if someone insulted my country by cutting my flag in half and I certainly wouldn't insult another by doing such a thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If someone was doing it simply for the $5, would you still consider it an insult to the country? If yes, why?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, because it's defacing the flag of a country. It IS an insult.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not illegal. Not its protected under free speech.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What the... Where did that "Not" come from in my reply? Weird. That just shouldn't be there. And so now I'm confused if you're correcting me or disagreeing with my comment...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Insulting, yes, but it isn't illegal. Defacing the flag as a display of protest is protected under free speech/right to protest. Still horribly offensive, but not illegal

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Check out the court case Texas v. Johnson. Burning the flag is also legal just frowned upon.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well it should be illegal! And $5 to disrespect your country wow that's really douchey!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm an American, and while I'm not offended if someone cuts our flag in a non-hateful way, I don't think I would actually do this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why not?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because I try desperately to convince myself I'm not a lousy person, and saying I would wouldn't really help that cause. Yeah, it's not a heroic answer, but it's honest. Sorry to disappoint.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would cutting an American flag make you a lousy person?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because that's disrespectful to your country...I don't see how that's so hard to understand.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I might do it for $5, but I would definitely do it for $10.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This just shows how desperately poor our country has become.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not really.. You can look at a flag two different ways. 1. Nothing but a piece of cloth or synthetic material or 2. A symbol of our country. Those who only view flags as #1 won't have much of a problem doing it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I wouldn't cut up anybody's flag for $5.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why are the sensible comments getting the negative votes? Defacing your country's flag for $5 is flat out stupid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but what if it was done in private?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Then I guess it would only matter if you had morals.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's just a piece if cloth.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And your body is just a bunch of water and carbon . Why not cut that up too?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And our Constitution is just a piece of parchment, but I bet you wouldn't cut that up for $5. What matters is the idea behind it, not the material it's made from.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I would. Considering it has been written before.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Our country stands for capitalism, so by making money off of this, I would be respecting our country, balancing out.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I disagree, but that's actually a clever point. Well played.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I probably would for $20, but not 5. It's just a flag. I wouldn't do it to any other country's flag because they would take that as an insult, but I would to the American flag because it doesn't seem like that big a deal. It's sort of like how other people can't be mean to your little sibling, but you can beat the living crap out of them and feel fine about it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm pretty poor so not for 5 but maybe for 10-20. . .

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a piece of cloth. And there are millions of them. I wouldn't cut up the original constitution, or any historical flags, but other than that it's just like destroying a replica. It amazes me how much we stand by petty, worldy things. I don't care about the flag. Although 5 dollars just makes it seem like a waste of my time.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I am so shocked by what Americans can say about their country and their flag.No pride or decency for a country who gave their lives for other people.you people should be ashamed of yourself. Why do you stay here?

by Anonymous 5 years ago

I wouldn't be offended if anybody did anything to our flag, really, but I myself wouldn't do that to the American flag, and I especially wouldn't do that to another country's flag. It's just kind of disrespectful.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

For $5? Are you kidding me?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

God has spoken yo.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Who cares, it's just a flag. I don't even mind cutting my own country's flag. It's a goddam piece of cloth with things drawn on it. I wouldn't do it for $5 though, that would just be silly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can't believe what I'm reading. Disrespecting the Flag. I think this post has all young people on it.Who don't have honor or respect for anything. You people don't know any better.

by Anonymous 5 years ago

Hm... 5 dollars, nah. 100, HECK YES. Still, even with 100, and someone else's flag, I'd feel a little guilty.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Meh ... five dollars isn't much. Maybe for 15 or 20, though. For the exact same reason as ThisIsWhyImRite. There are so many of the things around the country that it seems silly to make a big deal about it. Now if you were to make a big show of it and make it clear that it was meant to insult, that would be a different story. I dunno. Maybe I'm not patriotic enough. I understand a little fondness over a flag, but some people get so obsessive over it. It's silly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

ITT: Moralfags Oh noez im totes disrepectin all mighty america if i cut up a fucking mass produced flag oh noez

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Troll, troll, go away, piss me off some other day.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I really don't get why people get insulted over flags. I once got yelled at by my teacher for cutting and pasting some paper flags from around the world, for a project. She said it was insulting, it's not like I did it out of spite. As long as you aren't doing it just to hurt a person or a country's pride and even then it is just a flag, it shouldn't be considered hurtful. Though doing it for five dollars is just plain stupid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What if I cut up your birth certificate?

by Anonymous 5 years ago

It's a flag... I personality Wouldint do it because I am not in need of five dollars. BUT I did agree because for some reason I would not be offended if someone did that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I would with a Soviet flag.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In Soviet Russia, flag cuts you! /shame

by Anonymous 12 years ago

See I honestly don't get this. It's not like I'm burning the constitution or punching Obama in the face, I'm cutting some cloth. Maybe it's just me, but I don't find that offensive or disrespectful. On the other hand, really? Five dollars? I'm broke but I'm not that broke. Give me a ten. But yeah, I'd do it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I disagree, and I am very patriotic, but Obama really deserves a punch in the face. I would pay others for any chance at it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'd feel bad if I did, just because I was raised a Girl Scout, but I wouldn't do it unless I was paid at least as much as the flag cost, and if it happened to be a really nice flag, I wouldn't do it at all. I don't think most of the mass produced flags are a fair representation of any country.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Burning/cutting the flag was legalized in 1989 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._Johnson) because the First Amendment protects symbolic free speech. It is one of my favorite cases, yet I would still not cut up my flag. I am proud to be an American.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Doing it for only $5 is pretty much pointless.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'd cut an Israeli flag in half for free!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

oh you patriotic americans make me laugh

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What backwards country do you come from?
