+542 Dating before you can drive is just stupid. "Hey, what time do you want my mom to pick you up for dinner?", amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I say dating before you have your own car. "Sorry.. Can't meet up tonight. My parents said I can't have the car." Hell, even dating while you're still living with your parents is stupid but, that one is slightly more forgivable because it's cheap rent. xD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eh, I think it only really matters if both people can't drive. If one can, then you're generally fine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Public transit? I guess that's not very romantic haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What about buses, taxis or walking places? Or even going on a bike if you're having a picnic or something

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i doubt people would wait until theyre 16 or 18

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why can't you meet up at the movies via a ride from your parents? It's not the most romantic way to spend time together but if neither can drive they would understand any transportation difficulties.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dating isn't a necessity... it's not like you're going to die if you don't go out with someone.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

going to the movies isn't either. that doesn't mean you can't ask to be driven to a movie every once in a while. (and i personally have never been on a legit date, but i still think not being able to drive doesn't mean you can't be social/ meet up with someone you like)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But I'm not talking about meeting with people and being social, I'm talking about dates... it's okay to meet with the people you like, but you can't call it a date.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you cant call it a date if you didnt get picked up...?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, Anon. Exactly. Dating is supposed to be something that two people do, (sometimes you can double date and all), but if there's going to be a hundred people their with you it's not a date. Just like that, if you're mom is there chaperoning you, then it's not really a date. It's not personal or anything. Or if you're mom is the chauffeur.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

so going to the movies or a retarant isnt a date but chillin at your house is because theres not 100 people around. and lolwut

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Alright I really don't care about arguing about this... it really doesn't matter, if you think you're "dating" then go head and think that, doesn't make a difference to me. If you want to scrutinize every line of what I'm saying, that's your prerogative, but the basic message 333 people agreed with.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Some people who are old enough to drive can't due to financial restraints. I'm sure we're all aware of the broke college student cliché. Although they shouldn't have to rely on their parents for rides, that's just plain awkward.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sounds like someone is jealous of teens. Probably because they can't get any

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know nothing about me...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll be able to drive before the guy I like can(call me a cougar...whatever), since I'm 15 and he's 14. Haha, so if we end up dating, I'll have to drive him around.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

im not going to not have a boyfriend because i dont have a car.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Guess my 78 year old uncle can't date then, he's never had a driver's licence, because not many people in New Zealand 60 years ago had cars. And then he spent most of his life in the Navy, and used public transport when he retired.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but he probably doesn't live with his parents...?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but it's still under the assumption that if someone can't drive, then they must be under a certain age - I have relatives in Samoa and Tonga who have never driven, because it's pointless to own a vehicle in such a small country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Woo yeah, you found the one exception to the post. You totally ruined the joke. Congratulations, what do you want a parade or a small cookie?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not trying to be a pedantic wanker, but stating that there isn't a corelation between being able to drive and age and/or maturity. Adults in large cities don't often own cars, and kids who grow up on farms often learn to drive on their parents property before the age of 10.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah well, it's a joke it doesn't need to be quite accurate does it? It's like if he said, "4/3 of people don't know how to do fraction" and you commenting that what he said doesn't make senses and he should learn fractions. I'm pretty sure op knows that there are adults who don't drive and little kids that do drive. But if EVERY joke had to be suitable for everyone, then jokes wouldn't be funny at all. http://www.amirite.net/user/Philosophical_Panda/posts Here's a link to Panda's posts. Most of these posts are jokes and most of the jokes are actually quite witty and it's not something just any idiot can come up with (assuming they're original). So it makes sense to assume that Panda knew the things that you told him (before you even commented). I dunno, does that make sense?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Almost all of my posts are original, though I admit the Justin Bieber, and time travelling jokes are not mine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol, calm down Charlie Brown. I do like Philosophical_Panda's posts, and I do think many of them are funny. I don't going around picking at every joke, but I felt this was a more serious post - the first half - with a joke attached - the dialogue in the second half. I just didn't agree with the first half - that the ability to drive has any relation to being mature or old enough to date.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I AM CALM. And okay

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I'm not complaining about the joke or anything. I am always the last person to complain about anything. If I were on a television game show where points were awarded for complaining, my only complaint would be participating in a show that is clearly beyond my means of winning.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was actually just arguing for the sake of arguing... I actually did understand what you were saying, just didn't want to accept it, haha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

y No probs, I too am a member of the "Arsehole-For-The-Sake-Of-Being-An-Arsehole" club.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm actually the president of that club, in my local division!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's called meeting somewhere. besides, even if you have your license you couldn't drive them around for at least a year anyway.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its not that bad... it suckes but im glad i dated before i was 16 17 years old

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is ridiculous. Just because you can't drive, doesn't mean you shouldn't get to enjoy the benefits of dating. It may be inconvenient at times, but it shouldn't rule out the option all together.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In some countries, including the one I live in, you can't drive until you're 18.
