+553 Whenever a character in one of Shakespeare's plays dies, they seem to feel this need to state that they are dying, amirite?

"Ask for me tomorrow and you shall find me a grave man!"

I feel nerdy for knowing the reason behind this, but I'm not going to spoil the post.

"He has killed me, mother!" (Or something to that effect).

I have no qualms about spoiling a post. Shakespeare's writing style was to have his characters describe exactly what was happening to them in the moment. This made it a bit more obvious to the uneducated peasant in the audience what exactly was going on in the play.

Not to mention it saved time. Why waste time giving stage directions when you can say the stage directions?

"O, I am slain!" is by far my favourite dying quote, and if I ever get murdered I am definitely going to end with that.

After we read Romeo and Juliet we watched the 1968 version of the movie. I found it hilarious that Mercutio danced and ranted for 3 minutes before FINALLY dying. Paris's "O, I am slain," quote was funny too. It's like "No shit."

I thought is was really funny that he made it all into a joke until he realized he was actually dying. At first he was like "Hey, lemme dance around and gain sympathy" but then he was like "I HOPE BOTH YOUR HOUSEHOLDS DIE, YOU BASTARDS" Moods swings?

This isn't Shakespeare, but Godspell actually has Jesus sing, "Oh God, I'm dead." I got yelled at for giggling when we first learned the Finale.

I understand the reason behind it, but it doesn't make it less funny.
