Some of god's greatest features are that he is identical to a void.

By looking at your horrible grammar in this sentence I can be free to assume that you are part of some nondescript polytheistic religion. But it's probably more likely you're some Judeo-Christian loony/a troll.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you mean god or God? Because there's a difference.

And here we go again... It would be really nice to see a debate about the merits of roquefort cheese over cheddar...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

inb4 debate about whether or not God exists even though the post isn't about that, right? I believe in a higher being but praying to it or worshiping it just seems stupid. Some people pray, "Oh please! Let me win the lottery!!!"... as though if they pray hard enough, God will ignore everybody else's prayers to let them win.

Belief in a deity is irrelivant. Prayer has been tested time and time again to make no statistical difference, it's just a placebo effect. Besides you can logically argue that if god's mind cannot be changed then prayer is totally pointless.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, last year my stats book (I realize that's not a good start, but hear me out) referenced a study done about in vitro fertilization, and about other women praying for those receiving it, and a significantly higher amount of those being prayed for became pregnant as compared to the other group. Now, I can't remember if the women were told they were being prayed for, so yes you can still argue the placebo effect, but that doesn't mean it doesn't do anything. Placebos can work wonders just by affecting a mindset.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That test was unballanced. Was there no other placebo effect tested against it? And remember placebo effect only works for as long as you believe it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It was unbalanced? How so? And yeah, but I'm trying to middle ground here that it may have been placebo. Or maybe prayer works.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sure if it's placebo effect fantastic. There's just one problem. It only works for the people that believe it, everyone else is stuck with being yapped at.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...yapped at? Prayer should be personal and is usually done in a religious setting. I realize some people make it public, but I think lit of respect for others you can suffer through their prayers. It's not that big of a deal. And of course if you believe it won't work then a placebo wouldn't have any effect, but even if it did work (not as a placebo) people who didn't believe could just as easily vehemently deny that was why it happened, like with anything else. There will always be misconceptions and misunderstandings, so instead of always trying to correct people or show them who is or isn't "right" we should be open and listen, and of we think something is factually wrong, we could politely let them know that we think we have different evidence/opinion/convictions/whatever.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes we do that and christians always ignore it. That's one of the convenient things about faith, it can override the obvious.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay, so my "we" was meant to stand for "humans" but I get the feeling your "we" referred to something excluding Christians... which is a sweeping generalization. I have to say this conversation is incredibly boring.

Noone is forcing you to reply.
