When Voldemort went to the Potter's house to kill Harry, why didn't Lily and James just apparate the fuck out of there, amirite?

Where does it say that in the books? I suppose, though, that regardless of a Fidelius Charm, Dumbledore did that "Don't get in, don't get out" thing that's on Hogwarts on their house.

GAH. James had a wand, but Lily did not. James could not apparate away with his want because Lily was too far from him for James to take with him as Side-along apparition, and he wasn't about to apparate on his own and leave his wife and child defenseless. You CAN apparate in and out of a fidelius charm. The Trio did it all the time at Grimmauld Place.

The doorstep is inside the charm.When Hermione apparates out of the Ministry in Deathy Hallows and the Death Eater grabs Harrys arm they have to go somewhere else because they took him inside the protective charm.

It's not inside the charm. If it was, they would have just apparated inside the house when the Death Eaters were outside. The doorstep is only there when the house is, so Yaxley going on the doorstep revealed the location. I think the whole Fidelius Charm thing really needs some clarification...
