+258 Adoption: because the child needs the parent, but also because the parent needs that child. amirite?

Don't really have an opinion, but it's interesting that I was reading a parenting book the other day (no, I'm not expecting a kid, I was just bored) and on the chapter on adoption, parents saying they "need" a kid, or they're desperate for one gives the interviewer warning bells - that they might need the kid for something else, not like a murder or rape thing, but things like having a social standing, or because they believe a couple should have children or else be worthless, etc. It was quite an old book, from the 1960s, but still interesting.

now I am a child who was adopted and if that's the reason, that's the wrong reason to adopt. it's to help a child out and fill a missing piece of the parents life. If they're doing it for social status, it's pointless until the parents realize the true reason to adopt.
