+363 It's wierd how dimes are smaller than nikels and therefore use less metal in the making, yet they're worth twice as much, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

More expensive metal I think, though

Money only has whatever value that it is given. $1 bills and $100 bills are made of the same materials and are the same size yet one has more worth than the other because it is assigned that value.

Anyway, it's all about fiduciary money

Back in the day, the nickel contained 5% silver while the dime contained 10% silver. Or something like that. Even though it uses more metal in the making, its worth in silver is twice as much as the nickel

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Really? I heard that nickels were never made from silver, they were made from nickel. Though there's a pretty good chance that I'm wrong.

Sounds logical

Pennies cost more than 1 cent for producing, therefore you could sell pennies as metal and make profit. :D

Nikels?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're like nickels, but harder to find, because you can't "c" them.

what was that for?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

To teach you to spell "weird" correctly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i CAN spell it. i mentioned it because it was spelled wrong in the post

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well then you could have at least made some sort of pun like me, or at the very least, actually corrected the mistake...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha geez I didn't ask for a history of all currency. It's just something that ran through my mind one day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How is it that you can spell currency but you cant spell nickel?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

in the republic of adygea there is settlement called nikel where im from and it is spelled with no "c." now, when i write words on paper i dont usually include the five cent piece in them so i naturally assumed that the spelling of nickel was actually nikel. my mistake, i will now go inflict pain upon myself with medieval torture devices until i feel that my actions have met justice all because some assholes who probably never have had a post of the day felt that they had to take time out of their already worthless lives and point out the fact that a simple human being actually spelled a word wrong. oh my, what a tragedy someone mispelled a word!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it IS a tragedy! And you spelled weird wrong as well. Do you have some weird story to justify that one? Its insanely simple to have your post corrected to make you sound like you know what you're talking about, instead of a 2nd grade drop-out.
