+281 When the doctor asks if you are sexually active, you say no, even if you are and especially if your parents are in the room. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That information can be important when going to the doctor.

If the doctor is asking, he probably needs to know - if you say you're not sexually active when you are, he could rule out things that you need. Also, if you're old enough to be having sex, you should be old enough to either be open about it with your parents, or able to go to the doctor's without them.

I always say no when they ask me because I really am not sexually active. But if you are, it could be very important for you to tell your doctor the truth.

I'm pretty sure my mum has heard me having sex, our walls are pretty thin. If you're too embarrassed to tell your doctor about it, then you're not mature enough to be doing it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why does it have to be because of embarrassment? I understand that if you're alone and the doctor is asking, you should just own up to it, but personally, if my parents were there I wouldn't own up to shit. Like many people, there would be quite a few consequences I'd have to endure if my parents found out. Even more so if someone's parents are religious and completely against premarital sex.

Mostly I was referring to the part of the post before the word especially, it is a sentence on its own wouldn't you know. Many people go to the doctors without their parents I hear, personally I think it's something you should aim to be doing before you have sex.

I'm a medical assistant and it really gets in the way when people lie...if you lie we can't figure out anything and we can't help you

If your parents are still going in with you when you go see your doctor, you're probably too young to be sexually active. Just putting that out there.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My mother still goes in with me. I have no idea how to properly ask her to stop going in with me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Use your words. It sounds simple, but if you're like, 16, your mom doesn't need to hold your hand in the doctor's office anymore. And she needs to know that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're mom probably isn't the most nosy, concerned, or overprotective. Unfortunately, mine is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm fifteen and sexually active. but my mom still goes with me

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Whore.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Woah there buddy, how do you know if she's a whore? She never said that she had multiple sexual partners and even if she did, who are you to pass judgement?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, I'm judging. Kids shouldn't fuck. What is this, she's barely in high school and she already has sex? Maybe "whore" isn't the proper insult for that, you're welcome to suggest a better one. It's stupid and aggravating, and I'll judge all I want. What, is "promiscuous" better?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree that kids shouldn't be having sex but I don't think it's right to call the girl a whore. I don't understand why you're so angry about some random 15 year old girl who has had sex. There is no need to throw around insults...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not just wrong in the way throwing an empty bottle on the ground is wrong, this is a kid having sex, //regularly//. I hate this modern thing, kids fucking around with one another, just as much as I hate them cursing and drinking and whatnot. It's just that I'm really ashamed of being in this society. It's not some random girl I'm upset about, it's //all// these random girls who do it. The entire generation of sluts.

I'm sorry everyone isn't living up to your standards.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I really doubt it's just my personal standards.

My doctor asked me if I was pregnant a few years ago when I had to get pelvic x-rays. (note that I was 12) Doctor: and are you or could you be pregnant? Me: No! Doctor: Are you sure? These x-rays could be harmful. Me: NO I AM NOT. Doctor: Not at all? Me: NO, GIVE ME THE DANG X-RAY ALREADY.

I think it's when you've started your menstrual cycle they are required to ask that, or they could lose their job, no matter how young you are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just remembered that she has asked me if I had started my period, and when I last had it. Which was like 4 months before my appointment... Just a tad irregular.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My doctor started sending my mom outta the room to ask ever since I turned 16

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wow, that's actually considerate, unlike all the doctor's I've had.

by Anonymous 5 years ago

Because there's no way I was going to tell my mom how I had sex when I literally never leave my room because of my extreme social anxiety, & who I had it with, especially since I'm gay.
