+53 People should be raised as Atheists, then when they feel they have an opinion on this world, they can choose to believe in whatever religion they want, amirite?

That would still be forcing some sort of belief system onto children, just that the beliefs are reversed. It's not really a solution to the supposed problem.

Im pretty sure he meant to say "Let shit happen"

Haha maybe so XD

i think kids should be raised learning all religions, and all belief systems and they can choose when they are ready.

The basics of anabaptists?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i think itd be better if it were more like a "dont tell your children" type thing and when they grow up and are less influenced by things and can make a decision based on what they experienced in their lifetime, not like teaching actual atheism

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats when they should choose religion (forgot to say that xD)

Raise them to be agnostic. That way they aren't being forced to believe there is a Higher Power nor that there is not.

There's a difference between Atheism and just not being religious, fucking idiot.

I was basically raised without religion. I went to a Christan preschool, but my parents never taught me to believe or not believe in a God. You know what that's made me and my brother? Agnostic.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think you mean "agnostic". Raising them atheist will only make it likely that they will REMAIN atheist, where as most agnostics are open to the idea of other religions and beliefs.

Hmm. I consider myself an atheist, but when I have children and they are old enough to start wondering about church and God, I would take them to church if they wanted to go. If they choose to believe, that's 100% fine with me; if not, that's their decision to make. I would never try to force my beliefs on them. And after all, there's no way of knowing if I will ever...find faith again, for lack of a better word.

It's called being secular. Agnostics believe that nothing can be known about God or the afterlife, and atheists believe that there is no god. Secular simply means nonreligious. Agnostic is much closer to it than atheism, though.

You misspelled "agnostic"

Most views here espouse a rather simplistic idea of "atheism". Indeed, it reminds me of the primary school distinction of "Theism (God(s)), agnosticism (not sure), atheism (no god (s))". The truth of the matter is more complex. Indeed, all atheism literally means is lack of theism. This is just as true of people who believe they can't prove either way as the most ardent critic of theology.

No, people should be raised Agnostic. Taught both religion and scientific ways then you can chose which one you believe to be more true. I was raised this way, and I believe in God but not in a religious sense. Reincarnation also. I'm also quite tolerant with others opinions unless is it very extreme to refusing to believe or listen to any other option. If everyone had this view it would stop the extreme views anyway....

If you're raised without religion you're not likely to begin believing in a higher entity when you're older; you're likely to continue your beliefs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can only be born into my religion though...so yeah.
