isn't that the front of your hand? because think about it, it's the front of your finger nails, right? so shouldn't it be the front of your hand too? that's always confused me.

It's a good point! I wouldnt ever refer to the "palm side" as the front, I would thought that it would make more sense to call it the inside and the knuckles side as the outside. I guess it's called the back of the hand becuase if you were to lie on your back, palms facing upwards (which is meant to be the most natural although doesnt feel like it) then everything touching the floor is considered the back of the body. That's my take on it anyway.
