+186 In some ways it's kind of strange how much attention bullying is getting. I mean, yeah, some kids get bullied more than others, but everyone gets picked on at some point. amirite?

There is a line between getting picked on and getting bullied. Bullies go above and beyond teasing - they threaten, publicly humiliate, use physical violence, etc. Just because everyone gets teased at some point does not mean we can take bullying lightly. Bullying is a form of abuse.

Plus, when kids are starting to kill themselves because of this abuse, it's LONG past time to make changes.

Oh TOTALLY right, And suicide is normal? It's part of "being picked on" right?

I think what needs some enlightment is bullying outside of school, especially at home. A lot of people complain about bullies at school but who ever sticks up for the kids being bullied by their siblings?

I hate it when people whine about being bullied. If you are getting picked on enough to contemplate suicide, get help. Tell a friend, or an adult. Most friends will help you kick the living piss out of the guy. Don't just let it happen. Stick up for yourself.

When I was bullied as a kid, I didn't have friends, for the same reason I was picked on.

yeah, next year my school is starting this policy that if you even say something slightly "mean" (even like as a joke to a friend) you get written up, a detention, etc. My english teacher was talking about it the other day. that crosses the line a bit too much..

How about instead of worrying how much attention it gets, we just stop doing it. Problem solved :)

maybe bullying is more of a problem now because kids are raised in more protective homes that tell there kids they are perfect and can do no wrong, then when a bully tells them otherwise they don't know what to do.

I was bullied when I was younger and people still fuck with me. I learned that crying and doing nothing doesnt accomplish shit, so now I regularily go to the gym and when people fuck with me, I tell em to back up or step up. You never know what you can accomplish unless you at least TRY standing up for yourself once, and people respect you for it later.
