Actually, under UK law, you do. Penetration by any other object is sexual assault, or grievous bodily harm, not rape.

I would MAYBE support this for serial rapists, but for first time offenders I think a lengthy prison sentence should be the only punishment.

There have been reports of women on women rape. And I read where a woman threatened a man to have sex with her, and if he tried to get her off, she'd scream and call the police and report rape. Sometimes its not just physical power one needs over another for it to be rape.

What if they have some kind of mental illness, or they'd been raped and abused themselves their whole lives and they don't know anything else? In my opinion, castration is way too harsh. Unless someone is like a serial rapist, and they have nothing wrong with them mentally apart from enjoying people's suffering or whatever. And what if someone raped someone in their sleep (it's happened, people do weird things in their sleep), or in some other state in which they wouldn't be aware of it and/or wouldn't remember it?

Yeah, but my point is, if the person who raped someone was asleep or otherwise unaware when they did it, it's not really their fault, since they couldn't really control their actions if they didn't know they were doing them, if that makes sense. And so while they'd still technically be counted as a "rapist", they wouldn't deserve the punishment since they had no control over what they were doing.

So you don't think a drunk driver that kills someone deserves punishment? And before you counter with "that person chose to drink and drive" (and since we are dealing with very unlikely scenarios) what if said person had their drink spiked, should they still be held accountable? Even so, a "sleeping rapist" still has the potential to commit more acts of rape, consciously or not, and should damn well be held accountable because of that.

If someone had their drink spiked, then it wouldn't have been their fault that they were driving drunk/impaired, so in my opinion no, they shouldn't be held accountable/punished for something they had no influence over. Of course someone who raped someone in their sleep has the *potential* to do it again, but technically, I have the *potential* to go killing or raping people too, but nobody's punishing me for that. *Everyone* has the potential to rape someone. Most just don't do it. In the case of someone who did it in their sleep, doing weird things in your sleep can often be caused by stress and/or sleep disorders (as far as I know), and both of those are simple enough to cure, so instead of being punished for something that wasn't their fault, they could just be told/forced to ensure it never happens again, by fixing whatever caused it to happen.

Nobody is punishing you because you haven't ALREADY DONE IT. I'm guessing? HUGE difference actually. And I'm by no means an expert, but I'm pretty sure nobody gets so stressed out they rape folks in their sleep. Also, do you really can be "fixed" without drastic measures? Look, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you're still a kid, and I promise I'm not trying to be a jerk, but honestly there's no point in discussing this further. Agree to disagree?

Sorry, but there's just too much room for error in out current legal system today to enact such a permanent punishment. Innocent people are put to death, which is also a punishment reserved for people found guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt". Having innocent people go through that torture would just be ridiculous.

The real issue is that any people are falsly charged with crimes they didn't commit. How do you apoligize to a guy who you casterated when you later find out he was innocent the whole time?

Firstly, in English law, the definition of rape is penetration without consent, so a woman can not be a rapist. She can commit sexual assault, and she can sexually abuse, but she can never rape. Also, sexual crimes by women are vanishingly small, and their crimes are perfectly well covered by other laws, so let’s stop this stupid “women can also rape” nonsense. In response to the question in hand, I’ll simply repeat my answer to a similar question posted previously: There are numerous accounts of women fighting off a male attacker by kicking, kneeing, punching or squeezing his testicles. We continue to be amazed & empowered by just how little effort is required by us to incapacitate a man in sickening pain, and it will always be our best option when confronted by a rapist. And you want to take away the most vulnerable target on a man’s body that we can use to defend ourselves? Ah, I hear you say. He won’t have the urge to rape if we remove his testicles! Well, I am pretty sure that before the stitches in his scrotum are removed, he will have purchased testosterone supplements online, and his levels of it will be probably be even higher than before his castration! The only way to deprive him of the ability to rape is the removal of his penis which, unfortunately, would be considered inhumane. A viable alternative to this is to perform a very simple operation to sever the nerves supplying the penis, close to the prostate gland. This would render the penis permanently numb and flaccid. This, I feel, would also act as an effective deterrent to all would-be rapists.
