+236 Windows just calls it a "Recycle Bin" to please the eco-nuts, when in fact your files are just being thrown away, amirite?

while you are right, I think the principal behind it is that your files take up disk space, when the recycle bin is emptied it frees up disk space. therefore they are indirectly recycled into whatever you may use the freed up disk space for.

Right. And actually when you delete a file, it's still on the computer, the computer just "forgets" what part of the disk it is saved to. It won't fully disappear until something else is saved over top that part of the disk. So in actuality, it is the location that the information is saved to that is being recycled.

I never knew that but its fascinating and good to know. thanks

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I could have sworn somewhere it said that even after you empty the recycle bin the data isn't gone. It stays on the disk until you overwrite the data with something else.
