or when your're in 3rd place and you throw the blue shell but you somehow mysteriously get in 1st place before the shell hits anyone and it hits you.

(Miss_Potter) The blue shell locks on the person who was first place when the item was used. If you happen to bypass them and come to first place, it can't possibly hit you unless you're within range of the exploding bomb, but the bomb's effect on you will be less than the person who took the direct hit, meaning you'll have less lag/recuperating time than the person who was formerly in first place. As for the bananas, if you're playing a team vs. or team battle, you can't slip on your own banana or any banana that your team has left. If you're playing single vs., then yes, you can.

really, because I've gotten hit with a blue shell right after Ive thrown it and mysteriously gotten into 1st place.. hmm maybe someone else just perfectly times it so they throw a blue shell too.
