+475 It's irritating when your thinner, prettier friends go on about how fat and ugly they are. You wonder if they even realize that they're basically sitting there calling you an obese monster, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or you can stop thinking about yourself for one second and try to help them, because they obviously have a problem

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, society does.

and BOOM goes the dynamite

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh here it goes... I'll humour you, what's the problem that society has?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The problem society has is that it (normally through the media) set's unrealistic ideas of beauty that quite a lot of people get sucked into. So when people actually look nice and healthy, they still think they're ugly and horrible because of society's view on 'perfection'

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, but you can't blame society/media for people's stupidity... modeling is a profession, like playing basketball or anything, the only thing models have to worry about is looking good, just like athletes have to only worry about their sport. If you tried playing soccer for a day and you're not as good as Cristiano Ronaldo, you're not going to be mad or if it's your first time playing basketball, you can't expect to be playing like Lebron or who ever, so what in the world makes people think they can just work out for an hour and have the body of a model? It's insanity. And besides it's all relative, a girl might appear to be attractive when she's with her friends, but when compared against models she might be hideous. It's only right that she knows her place in the world. With all the overinflated egos out there, realizing you do not meet society's definition of perfect is only a reality check.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But society shouldn't have a definition of perfection for people to mark themselves down against. No one should have to be compared to anyone to feel good or bad about themselves. I have a friend who is incredibly smart, and I don't define my own intelligence by what he does. I compare myself by an average. If we take the average of all non models in the world, a lot of these people who complain they are fat are actually very slim.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Then how do you improve? The average is always below par, if you always look at the average, you'll be stuck in the same place forever. Only by attempting to beat the best can we improve.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never said I use it to improve. I look at how I did on a test, compare myself to the average and if I do better, I say 'that's good, but next time I'll be better.' Self motivation is important too.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, but that's generally how people improve, by being like, "Oh who's better than me? That guy, so I got to beat him next time around." So that way, if you would have gotten an 80 on a test and that guy would get a 95, you'd strive to beat that 95 instead of your 80....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True. Personally that's not the way I function. But it's important to set a realistic goal. If you, most of the time, get say, 30-40% on tests, don't strive to get 100% on the next one because you could stress yourself out too much. Same goes with diets and exercise.

Also a valid argument.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wait, did two people on the internet reach a common agreement? Dear lord we're doomed.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That actually happens to me a lot. In fact, unless you're being blatantly rude, I try to see your point of view and usually on matters such as this, there's really no right or wrong answer. Just a matter of experience with the situation and I guess values.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hm...I guess I just end up with the trolls then :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Chances of that are very high

I hate this. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm not the prettiest girl out there but I'm not the ugliest either and it really does get annoying when people do this. If they genuinely believed that they were hideous and obese they wouldn't talk about it. Not to say it doesn't happen but rarely do I see really ugly people talking about how ugly they are. It's almost always someone who is average looking or above because they know someone will disagree with them. If you go to extremes about you looks in either direction you're gonna piss people off so just chill and occupy yourself with more important things.

Ugh that's exactly it, my best friend is pretty and a tooth pick but she always complains how "ugly and fat" she is! She acts like she can't believe she's pretty but I know she's just fishing for compliments. Girls who truly think they're ugly do keep their mouths shut. I know girls with eating disorders who I have never heard complain about their looks out loud.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're probably one of those pretty girls that do the same thing. :P
