Actually, in a way it makes sense. Fictional characters can be whatever you want them to be. Along with that, anime and manga are FULL of fanservice, so the characters always look inhuman, with their abnormally thin waists and huge boobs. Japan is full of perverts, so they have someone for every fetish known to man. Besides that, in cartoons, their skin, and overall features are flawless, because they're DRAWN in. There's less guilt too, because people don't feel like they're taking advantage of someone, or degrading someone by staring at a real person.
