-84 New orleans is pronounced like new orlans, not new Or leens, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I say it both ways. But I YYA'ed as to not make you more negative than you already are. =/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No one actually says New Orleens unless they are trying to sound like an ignorant fuck

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thanks for your input there. no

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What are you saying?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Some people say it so that it will fit. So it's not really ignorance, it's just their preferred pronunciation of the word. Just like the other comments, potato, potata.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no one actually pronounces potato as pohtahto

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Eh. I haven't heard anyone say it, but I live in Texas. SO NO ONE within a good 2 thousand mile radius of here will ever say it that way. But I can't speak for those overseas.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The only way to pronounce potato is "po-tay-to". It's not like tomato. Here we say "to-mah-to", but potato is still "po-tay-to".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Alright cool.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It all depends on where you are from or how you were raised to say it. It's like the whole potato thing. "PotatO/Potata"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That is how the song should have gone! "I say tomato. You say tomata. I say potato. You say potata."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it's all about the accent. Some people say "low-ee-zee-anna" and some say "loy-zee-anna". And I think people actually from New Orleans say Orlans.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They do, and no one here says Loy-zee-anna unless they too are trying to sound like ignorant fucks

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OH MY GOD. Not everyone who pronounces something different than you is trying to sound like an "ignorant fuck." Now go to bed, you ignorant fuck.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except no one pronounces that way normally, they only pronounce it that way when they're being retarded...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Isn't the French way to pronounce it actually "Or lee ohh"?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

... No.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It'd be "Or-lay-AHN" or something similar.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's pretty much what I meant I just expressed it wrong, also I apparently have a southern accent so I guess I'm pronouncing it wrong because of that.

I went to New Orleans once, and everyone called it Orlans. Actually, they sort of say N'Orlans. When people say New Orleens there, like I used to before I went there, it draws attention to how touristy they are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's French. Or-lee-ahn.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think it'd be "lay", with the accent aigu and whatnot.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm actually from New Orleans and we pronounce it New Or-Luns. Mystery solved!(:

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you know Phil Anselmo, Mike Williams, or Jimmy Bower?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...no. I don't, sorry.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I always thought they said it like nawlins

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I've heard it many ways, but most Southerners I've come in contact with say it "N'Orlans." As this was not one of the options, I voted down. Sorry.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's all dependent on where you are from. In the north they say Or-leens but, the closer you get to New Orleans it tends to sound closer to N'Orlans.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

it should actually be or-lay-an...
