Because retarded is "offensive" and gay is overused. Lame has taken on a different slang too, but it's a great example of how our vernacular has significantly shifted because many don't even know the original meaning and think this joke is calling handicapped boring and dorky. (Probably 8/10 of the people that voted your comment up) BTW how does "it make no fucking sense"? It's cool for you not to like it, but it makes perfect sense...
