Not really... we say the same thing about batteries, animals... people? Is it weird to say that my gf is dying from my stds?

Right, but the phone is rechargeable. It would make more sense to say that the phone is sleepy or something.

I was on the phone with my friend and told them i had to go because my phone was dying. I hung up and my little sister said "oh no! We can't let your phone die. Let's take it to the hospital!"
