+278 In the 3rd Harry Potter book, Lupin doesn’t let Harry fight the boggart because he thinks Harry’s fear would be too much for the classroom. But what about the other kids? What if one of them was abused or raped, and their boggart turned into their drunken father or a paedophile unzipping his pants? Amirite?

Bad things don't happen to wizard kids, cause magic fucks around with people who try to do bad things to them, read the 1st book

Also the other kids wouldn't get freaked out by that. Voldemort showing up would cause hysteria.

Is it just me, or are you making a lot of Harry Potter posts lately?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm reading a bunch of Harry Potter fan writings, plus Harry Potter articles on TV Tropes. Also, I noticed a while ago that a few of my top rated posts were Potter ones, so basically any halfway-decent Amirite post about Potter is gonna get HomePaged.

this would definitely happen in the real world but in the wizarding world tis kind of stuff doesnt happen. wizards are happier

That's one of the reasons why Harry Potter is urealistic (besides the fact that they're FUCKING MAGICAL). All the boggarts are something like Spiders, a snake or monster, but not a rapist, an axr murderer or President Donald Trump. I mean come on, if wizards were real they're would be so many rapists using the imperius curse....

Okay well first off Voldemort is scary shit. so he's scarier than rapists or axe murderers, therefore Lupin wanted to avoid his possible appearance. And second of all it's a children's book. It was always intended to be for younger kids. So she's not gonna talk about rapists. and third it's not important to the story line to talk about rapists or pedophiles in the wizarding world.

GEEZ LOUISE! Calm your balls BRO. I'm just stating an observation I made. I like Harry Pooter, in fact I have all the house ties and I wear them to work :)

I agree - I think the only realistic boggart was Mrs Weasley's, with her family dead, because that's her deepest fear. Being afraid of spiders and mummies is just a phobia, which isn't the same thing.

I agree... I don't understand why more people wouldn't see the corpses of their loved-ones. Being scared of spiders and mummies seems really ridiculous when you compare it to being scared of losing a family member.

And what if the the boggart turned into a 12 year old girl? That would to much for me.

It just bothered me, I forget the exact words, but Lupin was like "There are things in your past the other's haven't faced" - how the fuck do you know that Lupin? Like, granted, Harry got a shitty deal out of life, but what if the other kids had fears other than spiders and banshees and crap? Like, Neville has his parents so mentally handicapped they can't recognise him - that's one of the most awful things a kid can have in their life. What if one of the other kids had an incident with a well-known Death Eater in their past, and a Death Eater appeared in the classroom? Also, what would happen if one of the kid's fears was being naked in front of his friends - would his boggart turn into his naked body?

I don't think boggarts show your number one biggest fear I guess. I think the majority of the time, it shows what you're scared of NOW, at this moment. You're right, Neville is probably more scared of being tortured like his parents, but at that moment, after coming out of an annoying lesson with Professor Snape, he was more afraid of him. And Harry was afraid of Dementors then, because of the whole "he fears.. fear" thing (like what Lupin said), and because at that moment he was more afraid of a dementor showing up causing him to faint. While if a boggart showed up in his 5th year, he'd probably see Voldemort instead. Since by his 5th year, he had mastered creating a patronus and could easily repel a dementor off, but he was more afraid of Voldemort showing up and killing him. Same with Molly; her and most of her family being in the order, and Voldemort rising to power, made her worst fear is one of them dying.

Yeah, you're right, come to think of it - I was thinking of boggarts as sort of being like the mirror, they don't just show what you're afraid of, but they show you're deepest fear; but you're probably right in that boggarts aren't that soul-searching, and other show what the kids fear right then.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah I know what you mean, I used to think that too. I thought that dementors show your deepest fear, but after reading your comment about Neville, I figured out that Neville is probably more scared of, idk, Bellatrix, but at that moment, all he could think of and all he feared was Snape showing up and mocking him.

(Expelliarmus Wait that's actually a great point... it makes a lot more sense now. Kind of like the mirror of Erised. At the end of the first book, the stone wasn't Harry's one true desire forever and ever, but at that moment with Quirrell, he was focused on getting the stone to stop Voldemort.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah you're right! That's a pretty good point too. When Harry first discovered the mirror, he didn't want anything then so it showed him his most desire, the one thing he really wanted. While at the end of the book, all he could focus on and really want was to get the stone, even though it wasn't his number one desire. Come to think of it, The mirror of Erised is the opposite of dementors; they both may drive you crazy, but the mirror makes you happy while dementors make you sad. DUDE J K ROWLING SHOULD SO GIVE US AWARDS!!!!! but not really lol
