+68 This world would have been a much better place if we Christians just did what we were supposed to do instead of living selfishly like everyone else, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

idk, people will complain no matter what. if you are Christian but don't act like it, people will call you a phony or hypocrite. If you are zealous in living for God, people will see you as judgmental and as plain annoying

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"we Christians"? That's weird. The last time I checked, Christians are the exact same animal as everyone else in the world.

LOL.

Thank you so much for that remark.

Are you only adressing Christians? Otherwise, I agree, if by "what we were supposed to do" you mean the original teachings of Jesus Christ, which were, very much unlike the additional crap the Romans made up, revolutionary and inspiring: non-violence par excellence. Inspiration even to Ghandi. If, however, you are referring to puritan, catholic or similar teachings, I beg to differ.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What are you referencing when you say "the additional crap the Romans made up"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The body is evil. Women are evil. You should suppress all physical needs. Sex is evil. Witches. All women are of the devil. Education for women = bad. Men are superior to women. That kind of crap.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok, now when you say the Romans added this, where specifically in the Bible are you talking about?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never said Bible, I said teachings, meaning interpretations, dogmata etc. Please read my comments before you critizise them. See, when the OP says "what we were supposed to do", that can refer to many things, the Bible and all its interpretations as well as encyclicals, the Vatican Council etc., the works of Augustinus or Thomas Aquinus, rules like "no sex before marriage" for which you can find no valid justification in the New Testament....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just to clarify before I respond. I was not intending to criticize at all, and I'm still not sure how it came off that way. I was trying to ask what you meant by "additional Roman crap" so that I could get understand what you were asserting and then see if I agreed, and if I disagreed, see if I could respond to it. I apologize that I came off as critical, that was not my intention at all, I will try to reword my posts so that I don't come off that way!

I will concede that you didn't say Bible, but you did not say teachings either. The justification that can be found in the New Testament, is rooted in the Old Testament. The 7th commandment is You shall not commit adultery. Matthew 5:28 "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart" If just looking at a woman with a lustful heart makes you an adulterer, then the actual act leads to the same conclusion. Other New Testament verses about sexual immorality that I feel line up with what I have said include: Acts 15:29, Romans 13:13, 1 Corinthians 6:18, Galatians 5:19, Ephesians 5:3, Colossians 3:5. I feel that these verses all justify any writing supporting the rule of "no sex before marriage" but if I've misunderstood something or I have twisted The Word to support my agenda please forgive me and tell me so that I don't do it again!

sorry I keep responding! You were right you did say teachings! But I feel the teachings of Jesus have been preserved in The Bible (so there is where my confusion was) I am so sorry that I didn't see that word!!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

naw, I mean from a biblical stand point and that alone. There are too many Christians worrying about the little stupid things and their traditions that we have given Jesus Christ and ourselves a bad name... we have also lost a lot of souls because of the hypocritical lives we have been leading. (when I say we, I mean Christians in general)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Christians didn't do anything wrong

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think that's the problem OP is saying, Christians didn't do anything.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Are you saying that all non-Christians are selfish people?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no, I'm speaking in a general sense. Not all Christians have failed, and not all people are selfish, but in a more general sense, selfishness can be seen everywhere. From little kids taking from other kids, to people cutting you off on the highway. Just litle examples of daily selfish acts

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Where would we be without a little bit of selfishness in all of us? Nowhere, because we wouldn't care about our needs or wants, just others. It just would be a never ending line of "No, you go first!" "No, I insist, you go ahead!" and so on and so on... a little selfishness is good, because everything is good in moderation.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

there should be a seperation of church and internet

by Anonymous 12 years ago

this post is speaking to the church but it's about life.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So, if you actually did what you were supposed to do, every one who work on the Sabbath day would be murdered by you. Yup! Sounds like a plan!:)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Please read the New Testament. It might do you some good.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So ignore the old testament? Okey doke!:)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't ignore it. You don't have to follow the old Law anymore becuase we have Jesus now. That's why he's kind of a big deal. I think it's interesting to look at all the rules they had to follow before Jesus.
