+233 People should only hold a grudge against someone if they don't even attempt to apologize for something they've done. amirite?

You tried to kill me, but hey, you apologized, so we're good now.

I think they meant within reason... killing, stealing, things like that are different.

Obviously I was going extreme, but I was illustrating that there are things that you don't have to accept apologies for.

If they're actually sorry, then you should forgive them, but you probably won't. However, if you strangle a million people to death and then say "Sorry about that," that doesn't even count as an apology.

If someone tried to kill me, even if they were "actually sorry," I'm not going to forgive them. And no one can really tell me that I "should" forgive them, because that's an awful thing to do. So you're saying that it depends on how many people they killed whether or not people forgive them? That doesn't really make sense... But yeah, that comment was more a joke than anything and you're all taking it for much more than it's worth.

Maybe they shouldn't hold grudges, but apologies don't really get you anywhere; they're not always enough. I used to have a friend who would be incredibly nice to me one day and ignore me the next. After years of forgiving her, I stopped being her friend. Am I holding a grudge against her? No. Am I going to keep letting her walk all over me? Of course not.

There are somethings that can never really be forgiven.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, but not holding a grudge doesn't mean you've forgiven them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I guess that's true.
